Chhapaak Has Low First Weekend

Chhapaak had a low weekend of 18 crore nett and on Sunday there was no growth as the mass and family audiences did not come for the film. The film is actually giving a good message to society but the audience will only come if the film can engage. Nobody is going to pay money as the film trying to send a correct message as its about the film which has to deliver.

There are a minor holidays over the weekdays which could help a little but when Sunday is pretty much flat there is not much hope for a long run. If all the films were flat on Sunday then you can make a case but with the competition showing solid growth that is not the case here.

The film has done best in West Bengal but that is where Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior is weakest. The film is very poor across the Hindi circuits and even Mysore has not performed which tends to do well for these type of films. The collections of Chhapaak till date are as follows.

Friday - 4,50,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 6,50,00,000 apprx

Sunday - 7,00,00,000 apprx

TOTAL - 18,00,00,000 apprx

What a flop! This would've done the same with some new actress. If the movie was niche movie, they would've cast actually acclaimed actress not dp. Reason she is in movie, is to sell it and she failed!.. 🤣 lesson- sabka number aayega. Oh my, loving the excuses for failure🤣 from niche to offbeat to grim content to soon to be made for critics movie and they never cared for box office. Hilarious stuff 😂

And her oversmartness to support criminals is paying off. Brands r leaving her n stopped promotions . Bhugto! 😂

Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior Holds Strongly On Monday

Tanhji - The Unsung Warrior has emerged a HIT film and held very well on Monday with collections sure to cross the 10 crore nett mark. The fall is pretty minimal from Monday and by the evening it may just be a 15-20% fall on an all India basis.

There will be some places which may have a fall which is hardly 0-5% by the evening. Maharashtra is super strong and could do a repeat from Friday and Delhi and East Punjab have a holiday for Lohri tomorrow which means evenings could takes these areas towards there Friday number. This means the fall will come in Central, East and South India but it will be in the 25-30% region as Friday was weak in these parts.

The final numbers for Monday could even get in the 11-12 crore nett but that will depend how it collects in the evening. If it does get here it should remain around these levels or even more for the next two days which could mean a 100 crore nett apprx first week number but it remains to be seen where the film finishes on Monday.

The other release Chhapaak is struggling with a far bigger drop than Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior despite being a concept film with numbers likely to finish in the 2.5-3 crore nett range depending on the evenings. it can also hold around these marks till Thursday but even then the total will not be much.

I should have backed out after reading spoilers, why didn't I do that 😵

Watched the film yesterday. Its very unfortunate what Deepika did for promotions, took away the entire focus from the film. The film had buzz before it got turned into negative publicity. Chhapaak would have done so much better otherwise.

Coming to the review, there is an uneasy setting since the beginning. My only complaint was that there were too many flashbacks and it became very confusing. Especially due to the prosthetics, I couldn't figure out at times if it was the present timeline or the past.

The last scene is what shook me the most. No so-called happy ending, but the brutal truth. That case had actually happened a few years ago in a Lakme salon in Ludhiana.

Overall I liked the film. But its not for the faint hearted. Deepika, Vikrant and everyone performed very well. I wish there wasn't any negative publicity for the film. Its the kind of content everyone should try and watch.

Monday Update - Tanhaji ROARS And Chhapaak CRASHES

Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior has roared on Monday to collect in the 12-13 crore nett range. The film was fantastic in evening shows across the country which pushed the collections to a high level and the film also put Chhapaak in its place on Monday by having collections which were six times more.

The collections of Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior on Monday may not be as high as some other films but its one of the highest collections ever when its normal rates on Monday. Most films which have high Monday numbers keep blockbuster rates or enhance the weekday rates which is not the case here. Good Newwz late last year had slightly higher collections on Monday but the footfalls for Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior are far higher than Good Newwz. the evening collections in Delhi and Punjab were helped as its a holiday there tomorrow.

The drop came basically in mass centres of Maharashtra where it opened well on Friday and the rest of India has seen collections in the same range as day one even though multiplexes have lower ticket rates. It takes the film to around 72-73 crore nett and it now should get to 100 crore nett plus for the week at least as it will get benefit of the minor holidays over the next couple of days.

Chhapaak crashed on Monday with collections dropping more than 50% from Friday which itself was a low opening day. The film collected 2-2.25 crore nett on Monday and it could have been even worse but places like NCR and Chandigarh got benefit of the holiday on Tuesday. The film has been totally rejected by the public and will hardly benefit from the minor holidays over the next days and there will be more falls after this holiday period. The total collections after four days are 20 crore nett and the week will be 26-27 crore nett.😊
