Yes I guess authenticity did play a part in its doom, and so did the done to death plot. I agree about the costumes (probably one of Neeta Lulla's biggest disappointments) and the ending part too. What the heck was that "Ganga" nonsense? 😆 I had a problem with how lame Maham (Kabir Bedi) was as a vilain also at the end, with those idiotic horns at the sides of his crown/cap doing nothing to help.
With the budget it had, it could have been much better. I still maintain that I quite liked the film but you could see how much potential they wasted so many times during the film. Unpopular opinion but I found Pooja Hegde beautiful and fitting to that era, but she definitely need to work on her acting.
Actually I'm just happy that lately Hrithik is in a really good place after everything he's been through so I momentarily contemplated his lowest career phase in the recent times, wondering what exactly repelled the audience about this one movie.

The title itself was the biggest mistake. Mohenjo Daro is touted as one of the oldest civilisation and city; part of which is still undiscovered.
When you associate the movie with such place, people would obviously expect some authenticity no matter how much you try to sell it as a fictional story which Gowariker did. I think that was the biggest disappointment and then of course the poor storyline and CGI, esp the climax scene. Pooja Hegde was a miscast.
Music was top notch though. I don't agree with criticism it got. Especially, the instrumental theme. It was haunting and Rahman's one of the best compositions.
Omg yes. The CGI in the scene where Hrithik is incarcerated and realises it was his father's city was SO apparent.
Agreed about the music, the instrumental tracks were soothing. This and Whispers of the Heart are as beautiful ❤
I adore this one
It did not look authentic. The sets n clothes n the mannerism of characters all felt modern, made-up, artificial. Thing is mohenjodaro is an ancient city, it is very difficult to create that aura that Atmosphere that city in a film set now with our modern pov. Padmavat, jodhaAkbar were eons ago too but they're still times kinda similar to now, times on which infos r available on which written scriptures r plenty. It's not prehistoric.
It's kinda like cosmic horror. The fear is in the unknown. The monster is supposed to be beyond our existance our comprehension. Either moment u show the monster onscreen, the fear factors decreases cz now we can comprehend it.
Similarly mohejodaro no matter how any director potrays it it'd feel inauthentic. This film did a mediocre job as per our modern comprehensions anyway, but still, even if they did their best, Noone would HV blvd it as an authentic potrayal imo. Potraying ancient prehistoric India with the vastness, the aura, the mannerism the people the order of those times is incredibly difficult
I have no idea...I know that I watched it in theater and I loved it....anyways I watch all HR movies...the only one I haven't watched is Kaabil.....because of its subject.
I was very excited to watch a movie on "Mohenjo Daro", the most advanced civilization of India ...I think the problem was they made the movie a regular "revenge saga" and Mohenjo Daro took a back seat .... The civilization should have been the main focus .. story should have revolved more on how and what ALL they had achieved .... a different "plotline" was needed than 90s regular revenge plot with a caricaturish villain!
Ahh still haven’t seen it except some scenes on YouTube.. but yes, the biggest blunder by HR since like maybe Kites.. don’t think he was doing all that good mentally during the shooting and Asho went all “whats your rashi/ and that abhishek movie” wala Asho..
Can’t believe HR actually put two years for this movie..
it was a good movie made with lot of research

As idiotic as the villain was 😂
I won't say Ashutosh didn't try his best to remain authentic with what little is known about that era
Mahams cartoonish horns were actually inspired by the pashupanti seal recovered from mohenjodaro
chaanis elaborate head gear with flowers was inspired by the idols of women recovered from the site
And lastly the seemingly weird story/vision of a unicorn was also inspired by the inscriptions from the actual site
