Hangover of Bahubali.
Ashutosh concentrated more on the authentic feel than the aesthetically pleasing feel. (SLB creates dramatic setting with Diyas whether they are authentic or not. Same in Bahubali. Nobody bothered about Hansa Nava or the cannons used, belonged to those era). Ashutosh made sure everything underwhelming (including Hritik’s dance), because of the era. But even that authenticity was taken for a ride with cartoonish dress, ornaments and narratives.
Makers wanted to keep the movie very low profile (so it would surprise audience when it releases) and kept everything under secret. I feel it backfired, as it did not create any pre release buzz.
Also makers tend to neglect the contribution of female leads in commercial movies. Most of the successful movies by Khans also have famous female leads. Here Hritik was the only known name. Even he was embroiled by controversy and he could not promote it properly. Already a movie shot at secret. Now, not enough promotion. How much will it earn in first few days? It became heavily dependent on wom.
I feel, there was a constant effort to kill that wom factor too since the time trailer was released (Mocking the crocodile scene). Agree, Ganga settlement was not authentic. But it was just one line said at the end. Before that, the bridge making scene was so powerfully shot. (Only to be witnessed on screen). Not a single line was spent praising it.
Ganga line was mocked so much as if every historical are so accurately portrayed. (Historical movies portraying few hundred years back, come with so many inaccuracies, like a Muslim queen preparing Jauher in BM). MJ was a fiction movie. People mocked it so much as if, everyone knew history of Harappan settlements, Ghagger-Hakra rivers.
