The greatest character is none other than Mughal-e-Azam (the great Mughal). King Akbar
He did not have a son. He, a king (Priithvi Raj Kapoor), then decides to pray at a dargah. He goes there on feet in desert walking. Well later son is born i.e. Saleem (Dilip Kumar). King's kaneez who gave the news gets lots of jewelry and a promise form King that ask anything she wants. But she does not ask for anything
He sends son to boarding school or whatever and he comes back after many years winning many battles
On his return there are celebrations. Among that there is a fox kaneez/maid named anar kali
Anar kali was eyeing royalty - queen status. She was beautiful. Salim was somewhere ashiq in heart...i wont call tharki but kindda like sadak chaap raj aarayans of today. He fell in love with anarkali.
Kali sensed it..she phasaos salim in her jaal..there are songs and love drama.
King Akbar comes to know and asks Salim to ditch her. He says Hindustaan deserves a proper ruler not a sadak chaap asshiq...but salim has been bitten by now. He revolts and threatens. King captures kali...who is putting up an act of victim to create rift between kind and lapada saleem
King condemns his son - yes son who he got after long time - to death. Fight erupts.
Queen who is a rajput supports her husband over her son though in pain
King thrashes Salim who is captured and is now in front of a toup - about to be blown to pieces
But Kali comes ....she sacrifices herself and asks for mercy. Salim is let off. Kali is now condemned to death
Surprisingly here..Salim is not seen revolting again. I guess thrashing got to him
Anar kali is now being put behind the wall....Salim is probably dosed off ...maybe had too much.
Movie is ending but scene cuts
The old maid who did not ask for anything when salim was born had come to Akbar and asked to forgive life of Kali. She says she is my daughter. King has his rule on the one side and his parampara ansuhasan and prashistha on other
His 160 IQ comes up with a plan. He lets Kali go ....through a patli gali behind the wall. Everyone thinks she is dead.
What a great movie...Dilip Kumar no doubt is the greatest bollywood actor. Acting, accent, class in unmatched but here the great Prithivi Raj Chauhan took the limelite. Kindda like Gabbar taking it in Sholay
