I actually understand your points. But here's the thing in India we can't afford this mentality of not seeing the problematic parts of the 'hero', not focussing on the details as you say and just seeing what they want to see.
Because these things influence people and even if it's only the toxic men who are already inclined towards it you should know that they are infact the majority, the good men are in the minority in his country and we the women have to bear the brunt of it in the end. We can't afford glorification of this kinda behaviour. If these people you talk of still don't see the misogyny, the toxic masculinity even when explained then isnt that a problem? I would understand someone going to the movie and enjoying it for the music, love angle and all that but then when someone tells their story of how glorification of Kabir Singhs is traumatic to women then shouldn't they atleast have the decency to not defend that? All those experiences invalidated because people just love a damn movie so much. That's wrong in so many ways.
Here's my thought process about people liking the movie. Its fine if one does. But when it's criticised for the portrayal of an abusive man as the hero they should shut up. Not defend it like it's an assassination on their own characters. If a movie is just a movie for them, then they should act like it.
What we are seeing with Kabir Singh's success and whatever that has resulted in its wake is the expression of all those suppressed hatred for women speaking up. In Kabir Singh they have found self expression on celluloid, their superior gender complex displayed. Preeti is perfect because she's all forgiving and all submissive. Any other woman and Kabir Singh can't be the hero anymore. Kabir Singh vs the feminists/feminism/the woman having a voice. That's the whole deal here.
And nomatter what you say about this director, these are excuses. He's a grownass man. No matter what environment he has grown up in, is he blind to the rest of the world and what's happening around him? He's not a buddha that he has no clue. He's a piece of shit and that's it. There's no defending that.
In all,its time we see our 'heroes' on screen for what they are. If one ignores or refuses to see the problematic parts and just takes away what they want to see, then they shouldn't get to defend the movie or attack people coming with their rightful criticism. Just because they don't see it,doesnt mean it didn't happen or it didn't exist.
I am not making excuses for Venga, nor defending him for his stupid reasoning, I am just saying that he might have grown in such fcuked up environment, hence he has fcuked up view. Doesn't mean I am saying, don't bash him or be gentle on him, or what he is saying isn't his fault.
As for people not seeing the problem which you see as a problem. See how many people go to a movie and come out analyzing it?? Barely a minute percent of the audience. Because majority don't think of movie as anything else but as a movie. For them it is a love story, not everyone will try to become Kabir Singh, because his antics aren't realistic, you cannot be a topper, thug and lover at the same time. People may play the Kabir Singh Bgm in headphone, grow beard and smoke, but tashan also will last 3-4 days. The thinking that people will start beating their wives/girlfriends after watching Kabir Singh, than that is far fetched. Those who beat their partners, have been beating their partners before Kabir Singh and had it happened or not, they wouldn't have changed.
As for why people are defending the movie despite its problematical lead because, when you go and watch a movie enjoy and come back, and than you see someone saying Kabir Singh is hit because the society is fcukrd up, the said person will defend his choice. Yes it is their character assassination, the likes of Shuchitra and so on, did the same by questioning everyone who enjoyed the movie, attacking them.
With Samantha it is different, because of the bashers you see are fans of the Venga, and other rival groups. See the previous posts of the all people whose tweet is shared by Zara, they all are Mahesh Babu fans, cashing on the opportunity just lik Akki fans/SRK/Sallu/RK/RS fans do. Mahesh Bahu fans are miffed with Naga ever since the news of clash happened, although the clash never happened, but the rivalry between fan groups, haven't ended.
See if the criticism was done as criticism and not as bashing, maybe many would have gotten it, like when Shahid said ''don't be like Kabir Singh'', many people were appreciating it, in the Twitter, Youtube and others. Even people who are now vehemently defending it. When someone attack a group as a whole, people forget what is right and what is wrong, and jump to defend themselves and attack others. Is that a right thing?? No, not at all. But that is how world works, it isn't about the misogyny, toxic masculinity or anything, it is simple about people thinking criticism are attacking their likes and choices, and than reacting like idiots. This doesn't make them inherently misogynistic or abusive, it is just that they are unable to take the criticism/bashing in a healthy manner. I mean we have seen in this forum only, how some posters, even the genuinely sane ones, sometimes act stupidly to defend their favorites and likes, doesn't mean they are inherently stupid.
