I think October's date at box office has shown that Lootera also wouldn't have worked well in theaters even today. A slow paced movie which requires patience to appreciate its nuances, never works in Indian box office.Originally posted by: mystic786
@Bold What the hell? At least give valid reasons... also are you the one who's representing the Indian audience now? 😂😂😂
Golden Dew is totally right. At that time movies like Lootera didn't work but now times have completely changed. Films like Tumbbad, Bareilly, Badhai Ho also wouldn't have done big business if they were released at that time. So yeah the audience and it's tastes have completely changed from what they were in 2013. Haven't you realised that by now? 🤣
Btw I never knew Fat Sona had anything to do with a movie being bad 🤣
Although it would have collected more today, given Ranveer's rise as box office draw but it wouldn't have been a huge earned. As general WOM would have been, ''boring hai'', ''mai so gaya tha'' and so on.
And from the movies which you listed, only Badhai Ho did huge business, BKB hardly made 34-35 crores while Tumbadd also barely made 20 crores.
And main difference between those movies and Lootera is the treatment and pacing.
Badhai Ho was an entertaining desi movie, just its theme was odd, but its treatment was typical social comedy, and BKB was a modern day Saajan adaptation in small town canvas, and Tumbad was a horror/mythology. Plus they all despite some lacking pace, moved at a swift pace, compared to Lootera which was a very arthouse like product. Kindly like October.
I loved Lootera, beautifully shot, although painfully slow but worth it, nuanced acting, especially by Sonakshi and great music. But I don't see it being a box office success today.
I loved Lootera, but I don't think most of the people even today enjoy the slow paced movies.
I know that you're a Varun fan but are you seriously comparing Ranveer's stardom with Varun's? 🤣 Lootera would have definitely worked today. If a film like Tumbbad can work then Lootera can as well.
Slow paced has nothing to do with the fact that it's a great movie. People are accepting all kinds of movies now. Lootera is no exception to that.

I haven't watched the movie but these two songs are my favourite forever

Lootera will always remain one of my all time favorites ever.. Although I find Khiljis potrayal equally fascinating, Varun probably is the best character Veer ever played till date😘😘😘

But no one like Tripati ji ☺️❤️...In this era of slice of life films, I am so glad that we have Lootera to go back to for the classy romance dose...This is one of those movies that you will end up loving more and more with time...
One of the most romantic scenes in the modern cinema- the unspoken love and the angst , wahhh!⭐️

First of all let me make it clear that I am not a Varun fan. I am a Katrina and Akshay, just telling you for future reference. I do argue for actors from time to time, it doesn't make me their fan.
Now to your point, Varun may not be in the same place as Ranveer currently after series of underperformers, but during October he was coming off a big hit in Judwaa. So the comparison isn't like comparing peak Salman with Varun.
Lootera is a good movie, but movies don't work at BO, just because they are good. Tumbad had that horror and scary aspect, it had that edge of the seat factor which Lootera doesn't, although Tumbad wasn't really a big grosser. Majority of public doesn't know about it, I think using it as an example of how people watch any thing nowadays isn't apt.
The surprise blockbusters/super hit last year all had horror or comedy or thriller aspect last year. Lootera doesn't have any, as it isn't your regular BW movie.
As I already said, yes given Ranveer's current draw, he might be able to give a decent opening, but overall, no because Lootera wasn't a Stree or Andhadhun, to have some interesting factors.
