Grey protagonist may work if u don't try to whtiewash them n give a happy ending. Bauaa didn't deserve Anushka's character. He shouldve been left alone.

Fan did better in this area,gaurav died. Grey to the point where your actions r unredeemable is not going to be accepted by audience imo. It's not just about India recently Zac afron faced lot of criticism cz hes playing Ted Bundy in a film n the trailer of the film was disturbingly joyous in tone.

If your protagonist is grey,u HV to be aware about that. Indian films potray grey protagonist as someone really cool and flamboyant . That's problematic. It's almost like director didn't even know how problematic bauaa 's mindset is.

Also for zero story was really weak,too outlandish and felt like the film is a joke at the end.

Also It's another thing when a character is this snakish evil like scar in lion king or this already known powerful villain like khilji That's interesting to watch. But Noone likes watching a tactless obnoxious guy next door who is full of himself . Irl too such People r annoying as hell

First thanks for the input which was a pleasure to read (even gave me smiles about the gifs). There are some MoonOrchid should include in his "Why couldn't people connect to Zero?" Very fitting arguments.

I especially liked TL's input and also the idea of Price & Prejudice narration.

However, here, I would like to concentrate on the reasons SRK may have had to do this film (also make as a producer and owner of RCVFX).

Till now there is:

1)Intrigued to play a vertically challenged character (return_to_hades)

2) The desperate wish for three things: story, acting scope, vfx (zehreeli.kheer)

3)He wanted to deconstruct his romantic hero image a 3rd time (pallavi25)

So I continue to ask:

1) Apart from taking on a fresh challenge and do something that even Americans rejected to try (reducing a man and make him acting amongst and opposite others fitting in seamlessly as if he indeed is a short man), what could SRK have intrigued to play this character?

2) no further questions

3) Why would SRK like to deconstruct his image of a romantic hero? Is there probably more that he wants to deconstruct?

Do you can think about further reasons why SRK made Zero?

Yeah, nothing against a gif thread about Ra.One!

shahrukh would do anything where vfx is involved., story seems to be the last thing on his mind..he is totally and madly in love with technology 😆

If that would be the only reason, why then choose a story with him playing a character that comes across as unpleasant and why Anushka's disability and Katrinas behaviour?That have been avoidable risks, right?

On a serious front, no clue what was going in his head since clearly the screenplay of the movie is horrible! .. Like you said may be he just wanted to experiment and got intrigued playing vertically challenged man, thought it'll be something different for audience to enjoy! ... Tho, something different only works if it's backed by "solid screenplay and characters", which were both lacking in the movie!

Neither do I (knowing what was going on in his head). Yet as ShahRukh is an intelligent man knowing about the risks this movie represents (he has a lifelong experience with Hindi movies), there had to be serious thoughts/reasons (except VFX challenge) some already addressed here.

(Ha ha, I like this 'throwing away his money' like Bauua does in the first part.)
