Actor Faisal Malik, known for his role in Panchayat, has shared his thoughts on filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s often fiery presence on social media. While Kashyap’s emotional outbursts have sparked debate, Faisal believes there’s more to them than meets the eye.
Speaking on Siddharth Kannan’s podcast, Faisal offered a personal view. He said Anurag’s reactions stem not from arrogance or impulsiveness, but from deep emotional investment in his work. “If you look at Anurag Kashyap’s work, you will understand why these outbursts happen. He is extremely loyal. Aur imaandaar aadmi tedha hota hai thoda sa. Satak jata hai,” he said.
According to Faisal, Anurag is someone who has given his all to filmmaking—whether it’s writing, producing, directing or mentoring. His commitment, Faisal says, is what drives both his brilliance and his outbursts. “When it comes to cinema, he is a great man,” Faisal added, defending Anurag’s refusal to compromise on his creative vision.
Faisal also pointed out that Anurag has played a major role in shaping the current generation of filmmakers. Many who started with him are now leading successful careers. That legacy, according to Faisal, speaks for itself. “He has given several amazing directors to the industry. They are all doing so well today. This proves he is extremely dedicated to cinema,” he said.
So when Kashyap gets angry or lashes out online, it’s usually not without reason. Faisal argued that Anurag’s frustration often surfaces when people try to interfere with his creative process or question his intentions. “Whenever someone wrongs him or wants him to compromise with his craft, woh satak jaate hai,” he added.
Faisal’s connection with Anurag isn’t just recent. His acting career started with Gangs of Wasseypur, directed by Anurag in 2012. However, it was Panchayat that brought Faisal into the public eye, especially during the pandemic. With a cast including Neena Gupta and Jitendra Kumar, the show’s quiet charm found resonance across India.
