Ranveer Singh: Is he somehow overrated?

First of all, this is not a bashing topic.

Today while reading some recent articles on Ranveer Singh, a thought just suddenly came on my mind about his achievements. We all know that he debuted in the year 2010 with the film Band Baaja Baraat opposite Anushka under YRF which was a success. Since ever he mostly preferred to work with the big banner projects. Among them most of his movies failed in the box office big time including Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (2011), Lootera (2013), Kill Dil (2014), Gunday (2014) [it was a pure disaster], Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), and Befikre (2016). In between, the only movies of Ranveer Singh that did excellently well in the box office after his debut are from Sanjay Leela Bhansali. His Goliyon ka Rasleela Ramleela (2013), which was a superhit made him the favorite of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, with whom Ranveer gave two more blockbusters including Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018). His performance in Bajirao Mastani brought him Filmfare Award for the Best Actor for that year. And seems like this year Ranveer will be competing with Ranbir Kapoor to bag the award for his Khilji role in Padmaavat. Regardless to say, Ranveer Singh shared his screen space with Deepika Padukone in his most successful movies who is his wife now.😊

Now the point is that, Ranveer managed to do his best in the box office only when he worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. So my question is, is Ranveer's career similar to Alia Bhatt who is mostly relied on Karan Johar for her success in Bollywood? Is he just an ordinary actor without the shadow of SLB? And does Sanjay Leela Bhansali treat him like his golden goose who has successfully managed to give him massive hits three times in a row?

Personally I believe, Ranveer Singh still has a long way to prove himself as an actor because these movies are not enough to prove him as one of the best actors in Bollywood. He needs more variation. Let's see whether Ranveer can really prove himself with his upcoming movies Simba and Gully Boy which are from different banners.

He is indeed overrated by extreme exposure along with Ranbir & Varun.

These 3 names are constantly banged up on us in 1 way or the other... a push promotion.

At least Varun Dhawan has given hit movies from different banners till date even though his acting skill is still average.
But it seems really weird the way Ranveer's name is mentioned everywhere despite of the fact that he has mostly SLB-backed successful movies, and otherwise he would have just a zero career.

No he is not over rated as in his every film he has acted really well.
Whether the film was hit or not is secondary.
He has great screen presence and his acting talent is really good.

Here's the thing. If you ever watched Lootera you can never think of Ranveer Singh as overrated. Its impossible. Maybe he still has a long way to go when it comes to starpower but as an actor, he's always been phenonmenal and I don't even mean his flamboyant SLB movies. Just watch Lootera. You wont regret it.

tbh he is generally criticized by critics, so how can be overrated when he isn't exactly highly rated.

His performances in DDD, Lootere,Bajirao, Ram-Leela, Khilji and BBB were not 'highly criticized like you claim...He is often called as the life of his movies and sometimes the only redeeming factor...Not bad for an actor who started only in 2010...

I agree though that he still has a long way to go to become a Superstar etc...But going by the way he is approaching his career, I think we can safely say that he is well on his way!
