Well i think he is good in roles which require a certain kind of flamboyance. I liked him in bajirao and padmavat. Bajirao being his career best.

But yes. He is overrated. Majorly so. And hugely a director's actor.

I watched lootera and sonakshi overshadowed him. Most of the time he went so quiet i could not hear what he said. Just going quiet is not good acting imo.
Ddd was nothing special either. To be fair i cannot comment on befikre or kill dill or gunday or even ramleela because after 3 whole minutes of that tattad tattad i gave up 🥱

As for offscreen his antics annoy me.

Edit: I remember one scene in padmavat where malik kafur awakes him screaming yent is on fire! And he goes bujha do...ho jaye jaga do...it was pure ranveer. He suddenly went out of character. And i might be nitpicking here...but padmavat was nowhere close to his own bajirao standards.

As for rk and rs comparisons bringing this up solely because ranbir has been mentioned by TM in her post...in all fairness i am an rk fan. So not gonna compare with ranbir.

His performances in DDD, Lootere,Bajirao, Ram-Leela, Khilji and BBB were not 'highly criticized like you claim...He is often called as the life of his movies and sometimes the only redeeming factor...Not bad for an actor who started only in 2010...

I agree though that he still has a long way to go to become a Superstar etc...But going by the way he is approaching his career, I think we can safely say that he is well on his way!

Well whatever critics reviews I have read there is always a hint of criticism for him for either being weak in some point or OTT, just like SRK used to get.

I think he is a good actor but not really in the level of Ranbir Kapoor. But that is just my opinion and people are welcomed to disagree.

As far as stardom is concerned let us see how he fairs with Simba, he has everything going for him.
Although he had the same during Befikre, although that turned out to be a bad outing.

He is an actor but more importantly a showman which is the main ingredient to become a star...

@Bold: Agree! We still have to see more of him to be able to make that comparison though...

Yep...Simba opening at least, I guess, will be an acid test to his stardom! But if the movie is bad, we have seen how even an Aamir Khan cannot guarantee success these days...Lets see!

Ranveer is a tricky actor and he is a director's actor. He kinda operates in the extremes if he is good, his unbelievably good and when he is bad (like in kill dil, chings ads) he is terrible and unbearable at times. But can't deny the fact that under the right guidance he can shine like no other can. He is a diamond in the rough and needs capable hands who understand him to mould him and transform him in the best possible way. I think SLB understands that about him and that's why he can bring out the best in him, and another such director is V.Motwane because I think Lootera is his best performance till date. Motwane tapped a very unexplored and sensitive side of him which rarely comes to the surface. I wish Ranveer could have worked more with him. They would have made the best director-actor combo.

Coming to star power I think a lot of big stars had favourite directors like Amitabh/Prakash Mehra, Srk/Adi chopra n Kjo, Hrithik Roshan/Rakesh Roshan so on and so forth. So being someone's favourite actor doesn't make the actor any less capable. But yes with time the actor should evolve enough to give memorable performances with other people as well. Ranveer is yet to reach that stage. Let's see how his future films perform.

I think he is a decent actor but still a long way to go to be called a superstar. Simmba will definitely open good because of it's director and genre. I will wait for Gully Boy.

Maybe he still has a long way to go when it comes to starpower but as an actor, he's always been phenonmenal and I don't even mean his flamboyant SLB movies. Just watch Lootera. You wont regret it.

THIS!!

Bajirao And Khilji.. Two totally different characters flawlessly done.
He is absolutely phenomenal. Infact he is underrated in terms of his talent or otherwise. I am glad media, public and bw folks haven't over hyped his talent otherwise he would have believed his own hype and would have repeatedly played same characters like in the case of certain someone as a man child. He is getting his due slowly and deservingly. I love his career. So much diverse characters and roles.

The first movie I saw of Ranveer was Lootera and that time I didnot even know who is he and he has done Band Baja Barat. I was overwhelmed. 2 things that stayed forever was the music and Ranveer..I watched BBB after that and bread pakode ki kasam if some filmy people's son gave that performance it would have been touted as The best acting debut!!!! Next was Ram Leela and I was a Deepika fan by then and I really thought Ranveer was better in acting but got overshadowed by Deepika's aura. But Bajirao and Padmavaat were on another level. These two movies made all the differences.. He has has flamboyance, unconventional acting poweress which separates him from other mainstream heros.. Purely on the basis of acting, glamour, hotness he is the best in generation for me. Stardom he will be there someday..at top.. Finger crossed for that
