Stree had a decent opening and gained momentum through the day and picked up 6.50-6.75 crore nett on day one which is a little better than the sleeper HIT of 2018 Sonu Ke Tito Ki Sweety. The genre has helped its cause as the genre has a reach outside the metros so even though the film is small and without much face value it still manages to get a audience in the A centres like Lucknow, Jaipur, Surat etc.
The film has collected well all over and the first day ensures a successful film. The opening is the 12th highest of the year and if we look at the 30 crore or less films than it is the easily the highest as even films like Sonu Ki Tito Ki Sweety and Raazi had costs going over 30 crore.
The opening day of the film reminds of Fukrey Returns last year which was a film in a similar zone though that film was an outright comedy instead of a horror comedy. The difference in collections between that film and Stree is the Delhi / UP and East Punjab belt where Fukrey Returns put up very big numbers.
Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se grossed poorly on day on at 1.50-1.75 crore nett which is well below the numbers of the last two films. The film has not done well anywhere and theatrically is going to hava big struggle. The film has very good non theatrical revenue with satellite at 27 crore and digital at 9 crore and that is probably why there was a third part of this franchise as the second part fared poorly.
The opening day collections of the Yamla Pagla Deewana franchise are as follows.
1. Yamla pagla Deewna (2011) - 7,64,00,000
2. Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (2013) - 6,36,00,000
3. Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se - 1,75,00,000 apprx
There is a big comedown from the first two films as can be seen by the numbers above.
