Only in Hindi was she clearly a superstar to my knowledge. But IMO her acting resume and costars was best in the South.

Sridevi was more famous in andrapradesh than tamilnadu. Thats why dhadak has got the best opening in Hyderabad/ Nizam Area. She was one of the top paid actresses in Telugu cinema from 1978 to 1995! No actress would Come close to the kind of craze she had among both male & female audience here(unlike vijayashanthi/ soundarya who were popular only among certain group of audience).

No..in Telugu industry she was a superstar already when she transcended to Bollywood...I was told she and Jayapradha ruled for a few years!

Aloo as Surya's daughter yes. Not as a heroine. After seeing Aloo and RK together where she has no makeup in one picture, I don't think she and a even mature hero will work.

Anushka Shetty and SRK wold make a lovely pair.

When it comes to Telugu cinema vijayshanthi would be the undisputable queen of all time. She is probably one of the few actreses who were paid as much as male superstars of her time. Soundarya & Anuksha were highly influential at certain point of time but don't come anywhere close to Vijayashanthi's Stardom .Currently Sai pallavi is the most loved actress here!

Oh I was about to Add Jayalalitha too but then forgot...I don't know much about her career though but she was so influential it seems.

Kushboo I agree..she even got a temple there.

What about Trisha?Her career as a lead actress is longer than Nayans I think.

Telugu industry past I have no idea at all..I haven't heard of Vijayashanti..what about Savitri then?

Jayalalitha was very influential, though I don't think she was ever known as a superstar. As for Trisha, though her lead career was longer, her acting skills were never that good enough to be known as a superstar. Even now, her career is practically non-existant. She doesn't get the variety of roles that Nayanthara does, plus she hasn't been able to make a film a success all by herself (none of her women-orientated films worked plus most of them were crap anyway). Nayanthara, on the other hand, has been able to make many heroine-orientated films a hit by herself. Plus, even in hero orientated films, she managed to grab a strong role in most of them, which is quite surprising considering that most hero orientated films only have flowerpot roles for female leads. If I'm not wrong, Nayanthara is known as the Lady Superstar of the Tamil film industry, just as Anushka Shetty for the Telugu film industry.
