I have not seen Blackmail so I cannot comment on it.

Veere Di Wedding and Lust stories both show female masturbation. In both cases it shows women as human beings with sexual desires. In both cases it shows women as being in control and having complete agency over their bodies in fulfilling their sexual desires. The overall narrative around both of them shows that women deserve to have their desires understood, respected, and fulfilled. Both cases had a place in the narrative of the film.

Item songs in most situations have no place in the narrative of the film. They are inserted in there for gratuitous purposes of titillating the audience and providing them with eye candy. Women are often portrayed as sexual objects. They do not have complete agency or authority over their bodies Their desires and aspirations do not matter. They are there for the sole purpose of satisfying the male gaze.

It is a subtle but important difference that sadly people do not get.

Now I personally do not have a problem with item songs. They exist because there is a market for it. The women in these item songs are acting out of their own free will. However, in a country like India where consent is not truly understood or choices are not respected. People object to item songs because of their potential to worsen existing issues in India.

Nope, but do we really need to see it? Just like I dont want to see penetration I don't want to see masturbation, it exists it is cool. And no one is being shamed or blamed from my side, it's a natural part of life and body. It is essential but have it in normal movies? Which I might watch with my more conservative elders? I would rather pass.

Having said that I didnt have an issue watching either scenes in VDV and/ or Lust Stories, because I watched both alone 😉
