It's all about how you look at it.Personally, I don't get how either is objectifying. Unless the actress or woman or man in question was asked to perform at gun-point, or under some blackmail that they couldn't walk out of, or was shot(camera) unbeknownst to her/him or is a minor girl/guy, I think it's fine.
Secondly, objectifying, I daresay is one of the words that is thrown around a lot.
Objectifying TBH, is inevitable for most humans, we objectify others, most of us have a sensualist within, atleast on a mental plane, okay, I get there are some who don't, don't mean to generalize here, don't mean to include all you pure souls. But I think it is natural to view someone purely from physical POV and titillate.. it is innate part of most humans, no?
Each of them have different thresholds. What looks like art, might look like trash to some others. If there's someone who sees beauty in something romantic or indirect, some see beauty in something in-your-face like a raunchy item song or lyrics. After all, how does one define beauty or art? So, it is all subjective, for the one making the art, and for one who has the choice of buying the art.
Some people think showing scenes of self-pleasure is normalizing it, some others think it is also a gimmick with the ultimate objective of objectifying the actor.
It all depends on mind/mood... you can see whatever you want to see in any thing, in any set of words, anything - it can be totally removed from the context, but if you have it in mind - who can stop... is there something wrong with it? No. It's human nature. Likewise, if something looks distasteful to you, that doesn't make it a universal fact.
Whenever older actresses talk about objectification, it takes me by surprise. Because objectification isn't universal, it is something that is highly subjective.. so subjective that it varies not just from person to person but varies by mood for a same person. No one can decide the aesthetics of sensuality/sexuality, it varies from person to person. Like it, enjoy. Don't like it, you're not forced to watch it.
What is wrong is when the objectifying is done in the conditions mentioned in sentence 3 of this post, and when it crosses a limit - when your thoughts become words/actions intended to harm a person's dignity. We can maintain civility despite the whatever runs through our minds can't we?
I think all this is bakwaas anyway, I'll end my post and run away before someone tears this post apart.. bye.
