Phir woh bhooli si yaad aayi hai - Begaana (1963)

I know next to nothing about this song or the movie - had to look up Wiki for info - but I do recall listening to it on radio years ago. The song is a soft, heart-wrenching melody by the duo Sapan Jagmohan, this being their debut film as MD.
It's picturized on Shaliesh Kumar, again a non-descript actor- though the movie also stars Dharmendra, who briefly makes an appearance in the song. The setting is the Taj Mahal, that makes me wonder about the context of the song. Is the guy's lover dead? Is there some parallel with the Taj's legend? If anyone has watched this movie, do tell!

Lyrics are by Shailendra and he pens such poignant lines that are rendered in Rafi's incomparable voice which echoes all the pathos in this song aptly.👏

Aankh mein boond bhar jo pani hai
Pyar ki ek yahi nishaani hai
😭

Woh Din yaad karo - Hamrahi (1963)

This is an almost happy song with the "yaad" theme, so I decided to post it after the plethora of sad songs.
The picturization clearly gives the context - a married couple - Mehmood and Shubha Khote - are reminiscing their early days of romance, while their kids watch on in bewilderment and surprise! 😆

This movie is remembered for the more famous songs by Shankar-Jaikishen, such as the title track - Mujhko apne gale laga lo, and Ye aansoo mere dil ki zubaan hai, but I like this song for it's positive vibes and the happiness it exudes.
Though the lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri sound rueful at times -

Phirte the aazaad ham toh chaman mein
Chand aur suraj hain jaise gagan mein
Ab toh yeh jeevan hai uljhan ki seema
Dhadke mera dil
ab dheema dheema 😆

- the underlying tone of the song is joyful. 😃

Huye hum jinke liye barbaad, woh humko chahe kare na yaad - Deedar (1951)

This song is sooo steeped in misery - totally reflects the self-pitying tone of the protagonist (Dilip Kumar) all through the movie where misery is heaped on this guy in truckloads and he adds to it by wallowing in it till you just want the whole ordeal to be over!
He's been in love with Nargis since they were kids singing "Bachpan ke din bhula na dena", circumstances tear them apart and he loses his eyesight on top of everything else. She, on the other hand, grows into a rich, privileged young woman who is all set to marry Ashok Kumar, a successful doctor - and to top it - you guessed right, an eye specialist! 😆 He bumps into the unfortunate Dilip and thinks he can cure him, Dilip, of course, is still drowning in oceans of self-pity because his bachpan ki GF failed to recognize him! 😕🥱 Add to the misery mix, a simple poor girl, Nimmi, who's in love with Dilip and is heart-broken because his heart belongs to another! 😛 Like I said, misery in truckloads!!

The songs are by Naushad, who incidentally also wrote the script, 🤔.
But there are some beautiful songs in this movie, apart from Bachpan ke din - there is the heart-wrenching Meri Kahani Bhoolnewale which could also well fit into this theme. Le ja meri duaen, Dekh liya maine, Duniya ne teri duniyawale, Naseeb dar pe tere.

Lyrics are by Naushad's staple partner, Shakeel Badayuni, intended to reflect the poor guy's angst, but to me, he just seems bitter and entitled. 🤔

Main hoon aisa deep ke jisme na baati na tel
Bachpan beeta bani mohabbat char dinon ka khel
