A beautiful tune by Snehal Bhatkar with lyrics by Kidar Sharma who also directed the movie, picturized on a very young Tanuja (her 4th release) and a virtual unknown, Ashok Sharma. Sung by Mubarak Begum, another singer who just faded away. She has a unique voice, slightly nasal, but sharp and clear. She was in dire straits towards her twilight years, someone posted an appeal on Youtube for financial help with her bank details. Not sure if it's real or fake but I'm not too surprised as a lot of yesteryear's performers have been long forgotten and were reported to be in sorry financial circumstances.😒Apparently, Salman Khan and Lata Mangeshkar were the only people who offered her financial support, with Salman paying all her medical bills too. She died in 2016.

Mubarak Begum also sang the popular "Muhjko apne gale laga lo" from the film Hamrahi and "Neend ud jaye teri chain se sonewale" from Juari.

love the tune so much LB 🤗

Just listened to this one

I think Shashi Kapoor in this movie plays the role of a player? :p Didn't expect the video to turn out like this, including the ever-changing color of video..😆

I really liked Mubarak Begum, LB 😃 ..I hope we can discuss about her songs when I make a special thread for those 'rare overshadowed singers' or something like that :-)

This song speaks of a different kind of reminiscence, probably the highest kind. It urges us to remember the sacrifices of our brave soldiers, the ones who give up their lives to protect their country.
Performed by Lataji a few months after the Sino-Indian war of 1962 at the Republic Day gathering, this song was purported to have moved the then PM Jawaharlal Nehru to tears, saying that those who don't feel inspired by this song shouldn't call themselves Hindustani.
Truly, the powerful lyrics by Kavi Pradeep (as only he can write such inspiring patriotic poetry along the lines of "Aao bacchon tumhe dikaoon") can move even the most stoic of hearts to tears. So unfortunate and unfair that he wasn't able to witness the impact of the song when it was first performed since he wasn't invited to the Republic Day function (Why?? 😡)

Lataji had some differences with the MD C. Ramchandra at the time so she suggested her sister, Asha sing the song. But Pradeep was adamant that Lata should sing it. She convinced him to let them both sing it, but at the last moment Asha refused to come to the rehearsal in Delhi. So it turned out that Lataji sung it solo. And it became her most celebrated song- no performance by her was complete without a rendition of "Ae mere watan ke logon".

The beginning of the song itself is so moving:

Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon
Tum Khoob Lagaa Lo Naaraa
Yeh Shubh Din Hai Hum Sab Ka
Leharaa Lo Tirangaa Pyaara
Par Mat Bhoolo Seema Par
Veeron Ne Hai Praan Ganwaaye
Kuchh Yaad Unhein Bhi Kar Lo
Jo Laut Ke Ghar Na Aaye

and

Jab Desh mein thi Diwali
Woh khel rahe the Holi
Jab hum baithe the gharon mein
Woh jhel rahe the goli

This song still stands as India's most patriotic song ever, next to the National Anthem itself and Sare Jahan se accha.

TFS :(

Apparently not! 😆 I thought so too - from the picturization of the song it seemed like this was something like Teen Deviyaan - with 3 women chasing the guy and he choosing one. 😛 But in Juaari, Shashi is supposed to be an alcoholic and a gambler. Tanuja is the woman who dumps him for a richer guy, Nanda is his new-found love and Naaz is a princess (😃!!!) who is infatuated with him! And I agree about the changing colors - how weird is that! 😆 Btw, someone pointed out in the YT comments that Mubarak Begum sings for Naaz, Krishna Bose for Tanuja and Suman Kalyanpur for Nanda.

Rare overshadowed singers- wow! Will be eagerly awaiting this topic! 😃

Btw, Angel- I think this song can be added to the "Intoxication songs", don't you? I think I have to change my stance and crown Dev Anand as "King of Intoxication"! 😃😆

Hey, Angel! Glad you're back! 🤗I was just twiddling my thumbs being a silent observer on the forum since I have nothing to contribute on the other threads 😆😃! Glad I can start posting now thanks to your new thread! 😃

I don't know if "Ye Shaam ki tanhaiyaan" qualifies as a "yaad" song, since we were strictly posting only those songs in which the word "yaad" featured. Plus, IMO, I would say this is more of a "waiting" or a "heartbreak" song. But yes, it's a brilliant composition by SJ and so beautifully sung by Lata. I adore this song to bits! 👏
