Wanted to watch 'Yaad aa gayi woh nashili nigahen' because of the set, LB. The orchestra, the theatre and the place outside theatre... look very charming, and am curious to see how Indian orchestra or theatre looked like in color back then :)

I cann't spot Aruna Iraniii :D ..is she the shorter one?

Yes Aruna Irani is the shorter one. 😊 There's another version of "Yaad aa gayi woh nashili nigahein" that I think someone else posted.

Kabhi tanhaiyon mein hamari yaad aayegi
- Hamari Yaad Aayegi (1961)

A beautiful tune by Snehal Bhatkar with lyrics by Kidar Sharma who also directed the movie, picturized on a very young Tanuja (her 4th release) and a virtual unknown, Ashok Sharma. Sung by Mubarak Begum, another singer who just faded away. She has a unique voice, slightly nasal, but sharp and clear. She was in dire straits towards her twilight years, someone posted an appeal on Youtube for financial help with her bank details. Not sure if it's real or fake but I'm not too surprised as a lot of yesteryear's performers have been long forgotten and were reported to be in sorry financial circumstances.😒Apparently, Salman Khan and Lata Mangeshkar were the only people who offered her financial support, with Salman paying all her medical bills too. She died in 2016.

Mubarak Begum also sang the popular "Muhjko apne gale laga lo" from the film Hamrahi and "Neend ud jaye teri chain se sonewale" from Juari.

Okay, so I decided to add a little bit of trivia and thoughts about the songs I post rather than simply posting them in groups 😃. So please bear with me.

Meri yaad mein tum na aansoo bahana
na jee ko jalana mujhe bhool jaana
samajhna ke tha ek sapna suhana
woh guzra zamana, mujhe bhool jaana

This song, for me, is among the top Talat Mahmood songs ever and ranks among my favorite songs of that period. The music is by Madan Mohan. Madhosh (1951) is among his early works when he hadn't gained as much credibility as an MD and way before his more celebrated works such as Adalat, Anpadh and Woh Kaun thi came about. This is the most famous song from the movie - I haven't even heard any of the others - and it usually features in every Top Talat songs list.

There's heartbreak in this song, but there's a kind of comforting stance - a lover, resigned to his fate, urging his beloved not to think of him or cry for him - and to just forget him.
The lyrics by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan are touching especially -
Juda meri manzil, juda teri raahein
milegi na ab teri meri nigahein
and
mera naam tak apne labh pe na lana

Talat's mellifluous tones do absolute justice to this song, that is picturized on a rather non-descript actor that Wikipedia informs me is called Manher Desai, but the woman he's pining for is Meena Kumari, so there's some consolation there.😆

Loved it LB.. and i love how you are sharing your thoughts here, thankyou for sharing :) I'm sorry I didn't check this thread in all these days...

I want to make a topic on Talat Mahmood, i love him very much.. he's unique and his voice, way of singing feels nice to me, different than most singers not just in that age but of all time :)

These lyrics reminded me of one song that I love a lot.. :p

@Bold: Please, please do, Angel! Pretty Please!! 😳😃 I would love to post Talat songs and discuss them with like-minded enthusiasts!

Yes, Tum mujhe bhool bhi jao - the only song composed by Sudha Malhotra in the movie, Didi and sung by her and Mukesh, posited as Sahir's ode to his supposedly unrequited love for her. And the more famous, Chalo ek baar phirse which he apparently wrote when he met her at a party after she married.

The lyrics are just so Sahir-esque. 😭😭

Mere dil ki mere jazbaat ki keemat kya hai
Uljhe-uljhe se khayalaat ki keemat kya hai
Maine kyon pyaar kiya tumne na kyon pyaar kiya
In pareshaan savaalaat ki keemat kya hai

and

Zindagi sirf mohabbat nahi kuchh aur bhi hai
Zulf-o-rukhsaar ki jannat nahi kuchh aur bhi hai
Bhookh aur pyaas ki maari huyi is duniya mein
Ishq hi ek haqeeqat nahi kuchh aur bhi hai 👏

I will for sure! :D ..and also make one on Sahir Ludhianvi ❤️ ..give me your ideas for topics okay 😃

Those lyrics.., one of the topmost songs that gives me consolation, pacifies me 💔 who is she, LB, Amrita, the one whom Sahir fell in love with?

why don't they write such songs anymore? :(

I know next to nothing about this song or the movie - had to look up Wiki for info - but I do recall listening to it on radio years ago. The song is a soft, heart-wrenching melody by the duo Sapan Jagmohan, this being their debut film as MD.
It's picturized on Shaliesh Kumar, again a non-descript actor- though the movie also stars Dharmendra, who briefly makes an appearance in the song. The setting is the Taj Mahal, that makes me wonder about the context of the song. Is the guy's lover dead? Is there some parallel with the Taj's legend? If anyone has watched this movie, do tell!

Lyrics are by Shailendra and he pens such poignant lines that are rendered in Rafi's incomparable voice which echoes all the pathos in this song aptly.👏

Aankh mein boond bhar jo pani hai
Pyar ki ek yahi nishaani hai
😭

hmm 😃 nice song, for some reason enjoyed watching it too :)

This is an almost happy song with the "yaad" theme, so I decided to post it after the plethora of sad songs.
The picturization clearly gives the context - a married couple - Mehmood and Shubha Khote - are reminiscing their early days of romance, while their kids watch on in bewilderment and surprise! 😆

This movie is remembered for the more famous songs by Shankar-Jaikishen, such as the title track - Mujhko apne gale laga lo, and Ye aansoo mere dil ki zubaan hai, but I like this song for it's positive vibes and the happiness it exudes.
Though the lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri sound rueful at times -

Phirte the aazaad ham toh chaman mein
Chand aur suraj hain jaise gagan mein
Ab toh yeh jeevan hai uljhan ki seema
Dhadke mera dil
ab dheema dheema 😆

- the underlying tone of the song is joyful. 😃

Cute song LB 😃

Listened to the other songs too, was nice to see Shashikala in Mujhko apne gale laga lo.. all the three songs are melodious.. and in both the songs, the VIDEO is quite different isn't it? Or is it the same with most 1963 videos? ...both videos had a nice set decoration(so many plants), lighting.. was aesthetically different than what we usually see in those songs :)
