I went into depression, but am back: Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan says he had gone into a depression mode but is now back and full of energy. The 45-year-old superstar also believes he is very poor at expressing his innermost feelings, be it love, anger or friendship.

"I feel so much healthy and refreshed from within due to the injury and the suffering I had got into a depression mode but now I am out of it. I feel happy and boosted with energy, Shah Rukh told IANS in an interview here. The actor tore a ligament in his shoulder during shooting in 2008 and underwent surgery early last year.

When asked how he copes with the controversies and comparisons, Shah Rukh said he lacked in the art of expression, which is often misinterpreted by the masses.

"I am a different person in my films; I am very vocal and expressive in them, but in my personal life I am a very weird person. I face difficulty when I have to express my innermost feelings. I am very shy, quiet and reclusive as an individual.

"It is not something I am proud of but I lack in the art of expressing my love, my friendship, my anger, my apologies, which people misinterpret at times.

"I am always compared; that is a part of my life. A newcomer comes I am compared; anybody does a film which is a bigger hit, I am compared; anybody does a lesser film, still I am compared. So comparisons don't bother me now.

He is all set to make his small screen comeback with "Zor Ka Jhatka on Imagine TV, for which he will begin shooting in the new year.

"I started my career from TV when I was nothing; it is a medium which is very close to my heart and now I feel excited to be back on it again.

Shah Rukh made his acting debut in 1988 with the television series "Fauji. After that he went on to appear in several other television serials, most notably in Aziz Mirza's 1989 series "Circus.

King Khan, who has hosted shows like "Kaun Banega Crorepati (2007) and "Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? (2008), says TV is his personal favourite.

"I have worked on all the different platforms, be it theatre, films, TV but genuinely, TV is my favourite.

He, however, feels he lacks knowledge of the television industry. "On many occasions I find myself lacking as far as TV knowledge is concerned. I am not very wellversed with the working of the industry, the terms and terminology of it; so I try to stay away from it, Shah Rukh said.

"When I stand among people from the TV industry, I feel awkward. I feel as if I don't know what they are saying, he said.

He has spent two successful decades in the film industry.

Shah Rukh made his Bollywood debut with "Deewana (1992) and since then has worked in films like "Baazigar, "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, "Devdas, "Swades, "Chak De! India and "My Name Is Khan.

And he says he is an original.

"I am the origin and original of what I do. I am the truth and lie of what I do. I am the goodness and the badness of what I do. Twenty years on, when you work the way I have with a lot of integrity and honesty, these kind of thoughts don't come to me.

"It would be very odious and wrong for me to say that I could be ever compared in a pompous sense it would be wrong for me to say I'm incomparable, but I think it is right to say that I don't like to be compared at all.

"I am not the number one star for myself because I try harder every day; I have always believed that I haven't done the best and could have done better. The day I stop doing that I will stop working.

Asked about his current movie projects, he said, "I am working on quite a few projects as of now. I am in the mode to work round the clock with television and films. I am currently shooting for Ra.One', Don2', and Vishal Bharadwaj's film which is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's Two States'

So what is his selection criterion for scripts?

"I try to keep myself on the other side when I sit to take a decision. I think about it with a third person perspective. I take up projects which I find appealing and grow my interest in them. If I like it, others will also like it' this is how my mind works

Lets break it down into two parts

Firstly luxury

luxury
lkSH()r,lZH()r/
    • an inessential, desirable item that is expensive or difficult to obtain

Now that we have understood the meaning of "luxury" we can move on to the part that it is not AFFORDABLE for everyone. Do you think a common person would have the means to get treated for a symptom that might have at this point become a part of his personality and his life? Paying for all these medicines when he can barely pay for other things? Or how about the fact that the medicines turn people into zombies for a while where their personality is affected. Or how about the fact that they medicines cause serve drowsiness that may limit the ability of people to go about their normal work life? Hence depression is a LUXURY that cannot be afforded by everyone. They are best left with cognitive behavioral therapy.

People who commit suicide are SUICIDAL their form of depression is worse off and requires hospitalization. At this point its not merely "depression" but is a full blown psychiatric emergency. These people have Shiziod personalities or are bi-polar or schizophrenic. BUT here we are talking about depression. 🥱

Now secondly lets come to DP. So my sincere apologies but i DO NOT trust her and her motives. So YES i think she is trying to use it for personal gains. There is no use arguing me over that.

So yeah...i guess that should be it. You are welcome to come for me again cuz i am sure as hell NOT backing down. 🥱

I am neither a doctor nor anyway related to medicine to know the depths of the topic. I am from Bangalore and is a volunteer in TLLLF. I work with them 4 days every month. We go to very very rural places. We are a 8 members team, of which 2 are psychiatrists, a doctor, 2 counselors 2 PR persons (of which 1 is me and b4 u all jump to PR jaap again, let me clear it to u. as we go to very very rural areas most people will be not willing to talk about their mental health and as Public relation persona, it is our job to explain to them and convince them to just give it a chance to get counselled. After getting counselled they are slotted into 3 categories like Stress, Anxiety, Depression. If they are diagnosed under any of these, they will be asked to come to TLLLF in bangalore for which the expenses will be paid by TLLLF. If they are not willing to come are more than 1 person in that area is in need of the treatment, they allocate a dedicated therapist to that area/people who goes every day from bangalore to treat them. Again for which all expenses were paid by TLLLF. All the treatment along with counselling to medication and whatever takes in the middle will be bared by TLLLF. They never charge single penny from the person who is under treatment. From 2016 January to till datewe covered around 1200 rural/government schools/collages and 800 villages and TLLLF treated around 4000 stress/anxiety/depression persons (out of which 3200 collage/school students) with out taking a single penny from any of them. TLLLF even provide accommodation for the people who come from out of stations freely. TLLLF is run on donations and volunteers. They even are not actively asking for donations.

Bcoz u all hate an actress please not make mockery out of Depression or all the work that goes to run a Non-profit organization.

Deepika had depression or not, she did it for popularity or not I don't care. But after gaining the popularity she wanted, she is still sticking with the cause and spending money from her pocket for the cause she started. You all read once in a while printed article and think that she is doing it for her movie promotions or for some nautanki. But behind the scenes guys, its a continuous process of work. Believe me. Thank u.

In that context, he even spoke about how he has no time to vacation either.

He was not passing a comment on the illness or mocking those who suffer from it or seek treatment for it.

And poor people also suffer from depression but will go un-diagnosed. Do you think a rickshawdriver's mind is completely blank when he is working? Or that of a domestic maid? Do you think worries and stresses of life do not agonise them? Just because they are unable to seek help does not mean that they are not depressed. So how is the disease a luxury? You could have said getting treatment for it is a luxury but you just dismissed the illness completely.

Just now I read a write up of a Sub collector . It was regarding the 5 suicide cases of women she cross examined within 10 days of her tenure . The doctor who was responsible for examining the cases shared her experience to the sub collector that majority of the women she examined recently, committed suicide when they were on periods . The abrupt change of moods of the victim and the lack of empathy of relatives might be the reason for this , Few of them were new mothers and the doctor deduced that postpartum depression is the reason .
The above aspects can affect anyone , even the poor and rich and the bitter truth is even the educated folks trivialise this issue . So a proper awareness is required in this field. I firmly believe that the TLLL foundation was her best contribution till date because their awareness program is focused on one of the most neglected fields is commendable .

@Janavii- kudos to you for associating urself with something that can really make a change...Sometimes it is important to speak up about these things as there are some self appointed judges who makes mockery out of anything and everything and pass their judgements as facts.. I dont think ur post can convince them even now but there are some who may leave aside their disliking for actress/human Deepika and see through the god damn real work her foundation is doing.. So thanks for spelling it out.. 👏
May DP has all the strength to do more and more..very proud of her⭐️

This is by far the most ignorant and stupid post you have ever written. Ironic coming from a medical professional if I am not mistaken.
"you know what? this person looks rich let me go make home in his body" Said no disease ever.

I wouldn't say the word luxury, I would say that poor people do not have the resources or education or time rather to treat , identify or face their depression.
Anyway if you are poor you lack essentials in your life i.e. food, water, clothes, money - your focus is never on yourself ( living) rather on surviving. You may be depressed but misery is such a major part of your life, you don't really differentiate it from depression.

On the other hand in the West and for upper middle class/rich, they have the resources to identify and treat their depression. E.g. I know in the UK and other European countries , you can take time off work for depression legally. Healthcare is free and access to mental health professionals is as well. I mean this isn't an illness that you can treat by confiding to your besties, you need professional help. Imagine asking for time off work in Asia, never going to happen. You will be fired on the spot. This is the case in all Capitalist countries.

Lastly, we cannot compare the poor in Western countries to the poor in Asia, huge disparity there. The poor in Asia have it way way worse in every aspect.

When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose.

depression is real n when ppl want to take revenge or insult a person they directly take dig on your depression n mock you , i have faced it, a family member did it with me in a fight bcs she knew i was in hospital bcs of depression she directly took dig on it ,for 15 minute she mocked it with smiley face as she is doing such a great thing n as she won by doing this.

when ppl know they r wrong n they dont have anything to say they pic on your weakness n hit on it.
