Bottom line is I don't trust anything they say during the promotion of a movie..

Padma is in its last leg..Can add only 50 Lakh to 1cr..A trip to delhi, arranging a session will cost more than that...We even have a volunteer in forum who works in her foundation..and the details she gave never came out in ANY news article till date..

Depression news first came in 2015 I guess and she had three movies in that year...Still if she has the tenacity to continue the work in that area even when she has no movies to release can not be called promotional tactics. But anyway each of his own

Her 3 releases in 2015 were in May, Nov and Dec, while she first spoke about depression in Jan, 2015. So that debunks the theory that she used her depression to garner publicity during movie release.

so she setup the foundation in 2015 and its still working towards its goal... Do you think that is also to cover up the promotion for any forthcoming movies of her ??

Also as her haters happily mentions, she had no release in 2016 and 2017, so did she wrap up the foundation and didnt do anything towards the cause, since she had no movies to promote ???

@janavii Thank you for sharing your insight. This seems really serious for her then. As much as I dislike DP, I can't be blind to her good work. I am suffering from major depressive and panic disorder. So anything related to this issue is close to my heart. I truly appreciate you and commend DP for the work she has done so far on TLLL. A little wish is they expand their foundation outside and not just keep to India.

Awareness and educating people about mental disorders is extremely important these days. The stigma it continues to carry despite the advancing world is shocking. When I thought people would be more progressive in their thoughts and be more open, the more I see people looking down and mocking people with mental disorders. It took me years before I even opened up on my suffering. It's the worst thing I feel can happen to someone. It attacks our most important organ, one that helps us to function and think. It messes up everything in your life. I am still struggling despite all these years of efforts and some wrong moves. I have been mocked, looked down upon, friends leaving me, losing my job, I almost died. Thankfully right now I am able to openly share these things that earlier I was so afraid of.

I have also done my small part in opening up a website/forum to help the small community of people I know who are also suffering where they can use it to share their problems, maybe help them to identify their symptoms. Again I sincerely thank you for your effort. This work should continue and may it help everyone who needs this assistance, especially those who can't afford to pay the heavy fees.

Lets break it down into two parts

Firstly luxury

luxury
lkSH()r,lZH()r/
    • an inessential, desirable item that is expensive or difficult to obtain

Now that we have understood the meaning of "luxury" we can move on to the part that it is not AFFORDABLE for everyone. Do you think a common person would have the means to get treated for a symptom that might have at this point become a part of his personality and his life? Paying for all these medicines when he can barely pay for other things? Or how about the fact that the medicines turn people into zombies for a while where their personality is affected. Or how about the fact that they medicines cause serve drowsiness that may limit the ability of people to go about their normal work life? Hence depression is a LUXURY that cannot be afforded by everyone. They are best left with cognitive behavioral therapy.

People who commit suicide are SUICIDAL their form of depression is worse off and requires hospitalization. At this point its not merely "depression" but is a full blown psychiatric emergency. These people have Shiziod personalities or are bi-polar or schizophrenic. BUT here we are talking about depression. 🥱

Now secondly lets come to DP. So my sincere apologies but i DO NOT trust her and her motives. So YES i think she is trying to use it for personal gains. There is no use arguing me over that.

So yeah...i guess that should be it. You are welcome to come for me again cuz i am sure as hell NOT backing down. 🥱

Wow. I can't even begin. Just because people don't have the MONEY to treat the disease doesn't mean they can't have or develop it. That's like saying someone who can't afford chemotherapy can't get cancer. What sort of dumb logic is that. And no, suicide can definitely be caused by depression especially if people don't get help or treatment. Instead of raising awareness, we have people mocking a disease that literally takes lives.

Your explanation of suicide is so damn ignorant. Suicide is not a disease. One is at a state of extreme DEPRESSION which has not been treated or helped which leads to that.

Not to sound insensitive but looks like the forum is full of depression patients ...it seems every other member has gone through it

In my personal experience depression is a luxury which poor and middle class people can't afford to have because they are too busy in earning their bread and butter to feed their families and their daily life struggle doesn't let them even notice that something is wrong so in that sense it's more an illness for rich people and western societies ...but when looked closely it's very common ( many get diagnosed with it as soon as they find their way to a doctor which is the main constraint ) .

Even I wasn't aware but knowing how it is, it makes me sad that others are also going through it. Depression is definitely not something that chooses whom to attack. Poor people have depression too. Luxury part only comes in the part of treating the condition. Richer people have the chance to treat them through various methods, whereas sadly poor people can't. I'm from middle class family and I have had like 20-30 therapy sessions so far. Each visit will cost me about 40 USD despite a government subsidy. And this doesn't include the psychiatry sessions and medications and other appointments I have. Ofcourse with my monthly household income it's quite tough to pay up from my own pockets. Thankfully I have coverage from the medical social worker, without which I would not even convince myself to keep up with the treatment process. I think almost everyone have misunderstood the entire luxury concept here and feel that poor people can't afford for the illness, whereas it's more if they can't afford the treatment. From whatever shared from our member here, the foundation isn't just spreading the awareness but also helping those who can't afford the treatment. I honestly feel it's a good work, it's something I have always wanted to do when I can afford to too.

ps : I am actually little lucky that from where I am from, there is awareness of a such illness, so I am able to treat myself instead of just struggling to get bread and butter to my table.

That is what i am saying that it's very common when looked closely and the person having it won't even know that they have it because they are too busy to even notice or get the idea in their mind... an illness like DEPRESSION doesn't even click to them let alone spend money to get it diagnosed or get it treated when their priorities are the survival of them and their families on a daily basis.
