Making it big???
those who lived in 90's can understand what a rage she was...why we r talking about that in 2018 where most of the 90's actresses like Manisha, Raveena, Preity, Sushmita have died down, not even kajol or madhuri has found success in this era...

topic is illogical

This is your first post:

You asked why she failed to make it big. But she did make it big. Very big. Not as big as Aishwarya, no. But "luck" plays a huge factor. You can be the most beautiful, most talented, most hard working, but without being in the right place at the right time, or "luck" or whatever you want to call it, it simply won't work.

I did, Rekha ji! Check @Bold..

Well, i somewhat agree with your reasoning. But i feel had she worked with the big production banners like Yashraj or Dharma (KJo) etc. Maybe she could've been a bigger star as her contemporaries? We'll never know.

Most of the people are unaware of few facts..because they have followed Urmila only after Rangeela...
Urmila did a couple of films like ChamatKar, Shrimaan Aashqui, some films with Sunny Deol and Ajay Devgn and Aa Gale lag Ja...she was just a simpleton who was trying to find her place in bollywood

here is one of her oldest interviews...and u can't even recognize her

she did some movies before Rangeela like Aa Gale lag ja and Chamatkar which were semi - hits / average successes at BO but failed to have her noticed...I am sure like any other actress she must have approached big studios for roles...like YRF or Dharma but with no face value...who would gave her work...

But just in one year..after AGLJ RGV spotted her talent and gave her a makeover which rarely an actress get in her life. she was on top of the world after Rangeela...and who gave her that success no one but RGV...she had to be loyal to him, I don't blame her, she went on to do many great films with him. He didn't find the same success with other heroines and they all tanked without a trace. Yes she had let go YRF and DHARMA..but despite a father figure and nepotism, she made it big...she had her time and had her prime, true I believe she could have been better...but she was ahead of her time for the choices she had taken. I'm extremely proud to be fan when I look back at her work...actresses mostly make fame out of flowerpot roles but Urmila was special indeed and shall always be

So good to see an Urmila fan on the forum! Thanks for sharing that lovely interview & artwork! She was so sweet & down to earth in that interview!

Well, i feel Urmila had the talent & potential to achieve lot more than she did. But she restricted herself too much with RGV.. i know RGV gave her some of her best performances.. still she should've worked with other productions & with more established actors. I kinda feel bad for her being a fan..because she had it all to become someone of Madhuri, Sridevi, Aishwarya's stature.

Anyways, keep posting more stuffs of Urmila on the forum. She's very loved here.

During a certain period, there can only be one NUMBER 1 actress. During her time, Sridevi, then Madhuri, then Aishwariya, always did big banner films or were the first choice for most big films at that time. Urmila didn't do many big banner films like her contemporaries who were NUMBER 1. She did a lot of performance oriented roles. She did Judaai over Dil Toh Pagal Hai. So for her, I guess she just loved acting and dancing. It wasn't about being NUMBER 1. She was comfortable with her glamour title.

Well Urmila did make big in 90's I don't think there was any magazine cover or feature that didn't feature her, she was a rage because of the sex-symbol she had become, but after a certain period she decided to become choosy n do performance oriented roles..
this is absurd to even compare her to Sridevi, Madhuri, (Aishwariya) is not known for her acting so I won't even count her.

Still Urmila achieved everything in Industry without the support of johars and chopras...isn't that a big feat in itself. Also RGV made great movies with her but look at the trash he makes now...gone are those days..

She was a good actress but lacked the IT factor. She never had the crazy popularity that other heroiines did like Madhuri, Kajol, Kareena etc...
Even though she had hit films, she had most of them with RGV who was never considered as a mainstream movie maker in Bollywood.

she enjoyed a great popularity and she had experienced herself at peak as well..
I agree to one person here that the only fault that she had of having a more 'reserved' attitude and she never really cared about approaching filmmakers once she was out of her prime.

But yeah she was a great package - versatile actress, great dancer, beautiful - a very rare combo in bollywood, it doesn't exist in today's times
