Of course in today's context something like that would be even unimaginable...of course girls should be taught to fend for themselves and protect themselves and fight for themselves but then its today's world not then.

Yeah it should not be glorified. Because people even today are indeed that stupid...

I had the same issue with Bajirao mastani too...glorifying infidelity as romance...defending it as polygamy was okay at that time...doesn't cut it for me...bajirao goes n sleeps around even though he ya married...while the wife lovingly waits for him to come back n then the viewers r shown that oh you know what the great bsjirao is sleeping with his wife too...so all is cool plus after all he ya romancing mastani...I have no words...epic love saga my foot...n I love Deepika n Ranveer n some of slb's movies...so it is not an anti fan moment lol

Saw the film yesterday. The Jauhar scene was very long-drawn and dramatic, but I don't know if one can call that a glorification.
Its the climax of the movie, what else does one expect? You have to end a magnum opus like Padmaavat on a high note.

And then again, this film is not only Bhansali's own vision, it is based on a poem written by a 16th century poet. What is the director supposed to do? Change the Jauhar scene into a fight between the Queen and the Invaders? Then everyone would have cried out that history has been tampered with, once again.

Is she really comparing Jauhar with what happened to blacks in America? I mean what the hell is that? And how on earth does it make any sense? Jauhar was done to escape a life of sex slavery. How on earth does that relate to lynchings of blacks by the whites? False equivalence 😕
And since Swara has constantly referred to cases that have taken place recently, then let me also mention the brave Yezidi girls. Some of them hanged themselves when they were kept as sex slaves by Isis, some burned themselves, some defiled their own faces. Are we going to also question these dead Yezidi women of the modern times as to why they chose death over rape as according to our Bollywood feminists, there's life after rape?

No woman would want to take her life for the actions of some monstrous men but not all women are alike and they do have the right to choose the life they want to lead.
We are in no place to mock or criticise their decisions that were taken under such trying, horrendous circumstances.

IKR🥱...facts from history should be presented the way they are...without glorifying the wrong that happened then...there is a reason why Deepika came out looking like a vamp and PC walked away with all accolades despite being a supporting actress...anyways...SLB makes trash movies...there is no proper story ...no sense of right or wrong in his movies...just because they are rich in color and magnificent to look at doesn't mean they are good movies...BM was trash and from the major critics reviews Padmavat looks like one of the same kind...and if some people are getting mad because jauhar has been glorified...i can understand that.

Not really! Didn't get why some reviewers were making such a fuss out of the Hindu-Muslim angle.

There is no strong association between Islam and Khiji in the film. In fact, they don't even show him doing namaaz in the movie, even though they show his soldiers and his wife praying.

That Khilji is a Muslim is only a coincidence in Padmaavat. His religion doesn't seem to have any influence on the sort of person he is.

People might be inferring into the good Hindu vs bad Muslim angle only because the good guys in the film are Hindu characters and the bad guy is a Muslim. But in no way, did I feel that the film was trying to portray that the good guys are always Hindu and the bad guys are always Muslims. Had this been the case, then they wouldn't have shown a Brahmin priest as a traitor and a Muslim woman as putting her life on risk for her husband's enemies.

I get where she is coming from .. I did cringe at the thought of young impressionable minds around me watching it onscreen .. But then I brushed it off quickly .. Teens these days are hooked on Game of Thrones .. So may be we should give them a little bit credit .. I trust them to know better .. It is a work of art set in a different era , based on a poem written ages ago , meant for entertainment .. In this day & age , we can simply watch it & enjoy .. It shouldn't have any impact on the values with which we lead our lives today .. I trust youngsters to know this , its the older generation that worries me .. 😆

Its good that this movie wasn't screened in those troubled states .. Given the hullabaloo they created , it is easy to decipher their mindset .. They still lead their lives with such archaic values .. Even with strong disclaimer , I don't think these people are capable enough to differentiate right from wrong in the modern times .. So that's that ..
