People are again confusing Sati and Jauhar...
Sati denied the women the right to live after their husband passed away...they were not supposed to enjoy this world..

Jauhar on the other hand was an option for women to give up their life because the life they would have lived otherwise would have meant dying everyday by being raped by multiple men...the women made this choice of not being sex slaves...and if you were not in their shoes...u don't have the right to judge them...burning alive in the fire is not a cowardly act by any measure...every women then had this RIGHT to decide what they wanted...these feminists who cry over RIGHTS forget that that was a right that women exercised at the time when MIGHT WAS RIGHT was the norm..

I do agree with the bit that if at all JAUHAR was glorified...it shouldn't have been ...because a lot of impressionable minds can take a wrong idea from it...it could have been symbolic .

Why don't people understand that , Jauhar and Sati were part of the history we are living.
It was the way in that time. Obviously it was cruel, but that does not mean , we can just erase the history and show something else..

In the context of padmavati , Khilji and these invaders were known to even rape dead women. So they chose to burn themsleves.
SOme were arguing why didn't they fight with weapons etc.
1st they were not trained soldiers.
2nd they were helpless and probably very weak from hunger ( cause their food supply was low ) and all the ration was probably given to soldiers.
3rd, If thwy had tried to escape through the tunnels, then remember that Khilji had people at every secret entrance and exit of that fort.
They were trapped and would have been killed and raped anyway and kept as slaves till the end of their lives.
Instead they themselves chose to kill themselves , instead of suffereing a slow painful life and subsequent death.

You cannot think from 2017 point of view, this was the 13th 14th century

Given the way those kshatriya samaj ladies were crying about their pious sati pratha being banned by the evil government and the way they worship Padmvatia for her jauhar the letter doesn't look that wrong to me anymore. There is still a society existing that wants to perform sati practice. They don't see much difference between jauhar and sati.I wonder how do they treat the rape victims and widows and if such a movie only fuels that thought process or not. I think SLB didn't give much thought how to represent the climax.

I love her.
And for all the Padmavati fans attacking her now, she was on the frontlines defending the film from crazy trolls while Ranveer Singh hid from the press and danced at weddings.

Such long essay holy cow ! I read the article only till the link part and didnt feel the need to read the rest. 2 facts Ms. Swara -

1. It is based on a poem written by Jayasi. So kindly please address the complain to Jayasi and not Bhansali.

2. Right to live blah blah point - Rani Padmini chose' to die instead of becoming sex slave. The underline word here is it was her choice'. I dont understand why it is such difficult thing for some people to understand !

Not even going to the fact that Padmini did not die because her shauhar' died, she already decided on her fate. Now are we going to give respect to her decision' or just want to force our pseudo-liberal thoughts on her and moral-police her on what she should have done ? Hows it pro-feminism Ms. Swara ? Padmini was a grown-up adult, can we let her decide please ? There were few instances in the history where women failed to end their lives and had to remain sex-slaves to the barbaric men for the rest of their lives. Who are we to decide if that was better ? In overexcitement, we are forgettng that what we are doing is Victim-shaming i.e. questioning her actions, decisions, instead of giving full support to her and the cause of her death and shaming the barbaric Khilji

Kahaan se aa jaate hai yeh log man. Pissing me off time and again over a movie ! Rajasthan has some serious water issues for which men exploit women in far worse way even till today, watch Crime Patrol and go fight for the right cause and wrire such long essays on those Miss. Spare the movie for everyone's sake !
