One of the most important and difficult tasks for actors to achieve is to have a realistic self-appraisal of one's market standing, and therefore, a justifiable price tag for one's services. This becomes even more critical if you are not a big star and therefore don't exactly have producers queuing up to sign you. Some actors manage to strike that delicate balance between being reasonable without underselling themselves, while some fail to read the writing on the wall.
Take, for example, this actor who was approached by this producer. While there is no denying the actor's acting chops, he was never a box office darling even when he was on a roll. A lull in his career over the last couple of years hasn't enhanced his market value either. Imagine the producer's shock, therefore, when upon approving the script, the actor quoted his fee: two-and-a-half big ones! Yeah, we are talking crores, not lakhs!
Needless to say, upon being told the figure, the producer quickly ended the meeting and headed for the exit. And the exit is exactly what this actor's career is headed for unless he wakes up and smells the cof-'fee'
