There are other pictures which depict rani padmavati with a unibrow.

It looks like a slightly modified Aish to me- the artist's rendition.

The unibrow is definitely a huge risk- it can either pay off or crash and burn. I do agree when people say the look is similar to Aish's from Jodha Bai but DP's features look stronger. Would have preferred a slightly softer look but at least she looks fierce and not frail.

I feel people overrate historical 'beauties'. We imagine them based on today's beauty standards but if we saw them now, I suppose we would think they are not that impressive since they didn't have the best salons and surgeons at their disposal. 😆

P.S. As for Khilji and Padmavati, one thinks such battles are only fought for the most beautiful but attraction is not straightforward. Look at the Charles-Diana-Camilla love triangle. People would consider him a fool for casting Diana away but all he wanted was Camilla.

@bold- Totally agree. Everyone expects crimes of passion to involve the most 'beautiful' people, but attraction in real life is multifaceted and not so straightforward. In fact, I suppose more than pristine beauty (borrowing Hippo's words) what drives such passion is earthy sensuality.

so true so true :)

..and, a person may not look good physically, but there may be something about their body language, presence, charisma, or even smile or smiling eyes or a nice/powerful presence or the energy or vibe they radiate that may make them very beautiful to people in general.. otherwise, wouldn't we be finding mannequins to be beautiful, since they are made so perfectly? we don't because... it's always more than physical perfection..

I'm reminded of Sai Pallavi (sorry cannot think of better example :p ) here who may not have all the traditionally good-looking qualities, but her smile, her smiling eyes, the girl-next-door "nice-ness" that she radiates makes her one of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen..

So, it's not just physical perfection that is beautiful.. but much more, especially when it comes to attraction and such :p

But Rani PAdmini isn't described as a Queen who was generally ugly but Khilji found her beautiful.
She is described as epitome of beauty. Hence these posters don't do justice to her beauty.

Who knows, this look is when she shows her face to Khilji and she wanted to mask her beauty behind unibrow to fool him😛

😆😆

IDK RR, beauty is subjective... and, in the posters, we are seeing DP as Paddu and maybe Paddu was very beautiful WITH the unibrow?

Here actors are playing historical figures and to imitate the beauty of any other person is not possible, so, I see this whole Padmavati as actors playing some people... but to impersonate even their beauty/charm/charisma exactly as the person themselves, is not possible other than make-up/dress/hair/body language (to an extent)

And whatever may be said, I like how SLB depicted the famous eternal beauty with unibrow, whether or not it was real.. imperfections can be perfect too :) I can imagine that Paddu could've been beautiful and regarded as beautiful WITH the unibrow.. if we strictly speak of physical beauty. Maybe people back then had different tastes, or maybe considered unibrow to be something special?

I've heard that there was a community where the "line of hair" on woman's waist above the navel was considered a standard of beauty... can you imagine that today! :o ..so, people's quirks about their ideas of beauty too varied.. There are many examples of weirdest ideas of beauty - the bound feet, the Kayan long necks, tribal body art/modifications... which look mind-boggling to us. So unibrow although beautiful to some, ugly to some others could've been considered a standard of beauty back then.. I'm just speaking of possibilities because in South India, girls with unibrows are considered lucky :)

Anyway, if you don't like it, you don't like it.. :p

Posted in diff thread.. again posting it here..

History says Padmavati was epitome of beauty but none of us have seen her.. Even if we get a real pic of Padmavati now, who knows we might not find her beautiful.. the standards have changed from that era to now.. So you never know..Maybe Padmavati did look like this ...

I loved this look... Its a queen's role.. There might be comparisons with Jodha, Mastani n others. They could show variations with costumes but i'm happy they tried something with the face too.. I know not many like it but i'm sure it will grow on you and look better on big screen..

And, historical accounts may not always be literal in their meaning..
Writers, poets, painters' accounts/works cannot be taken in literal sense - because they pursue their art with their own personal styles, their own honest outlooks, their view of the person, the social milieu, political pressures, ulterior motives... you can imagine anything. History is very ambiguous..

BTW...after looking at Rani Padmavati's poster...who in their right minds would believe that someone would leave Aditi and go after Deepu...may be if Aditi had played Padma and Deepika had played Khilji's wife ...it would have made more sense about all the khoon kharaba over the queen...😆
