"Sikkim is Very Troubled with Insurgency: Priyanka Chopra Makes Shocking Remarks to International Media

I woke up this morning to witness a shocking interview of Bollywood Actress and former Miss World 2000 Priyanka Chopra. It was some interview of her in an international TV channel where she was happily speaking about her upcoming Sikkimese movie "Pahuna which grabbed my attention as I myself am the proud daughter of the beautiful state Sikkim. But what shocked me was the moment she said that the state if full of insurgency and the situation is not so good in the state of Sikkim.

I was stunned for a moment as I was left speechless by what I just heard. I was born and brought up in Sikkim and never have I heard of insurgency in Sikkim throughout my life.

As far as i know Sikkim is considered the most peaceful state in the whole of India. You can ask anyone who visited Sikkim and the first thing you will hear is that its a safe place to visit with a lot of friendly people all around.

Even the present ruling SDF government has been in the power since 1994 that sums up to 23 long years. Sikkim has been a part of India since 1975 before that it was a kingdom ruled by Chogyals. A state which has been setting an example for the rest of the country to follow, how can someone of such a stature make such half-knowledgeable statements?

Miss Priyanka Chopra, you are an icon and there is no doubt you have achieved great heights in your career. People look up to you as an inspiration and want to follow your footsteps. Being an inspiration brings in a lot of responsibility, you represented our country in Miss World 2000 and won the crown and we are proud of you for that but speaking rubbish in front of an international TV channel about a state which you don't know well is not at all acceptable.

I used to admire you for what you have achieved but today, the false statement you made regarding my state Sikkim has put me in a place where am questioning you that is it fair of you to malign my state's name just for the sake of promoting your film?

Insurgency in Sikkim!!!

Madam could have atleast visited us or researched about us before making the film or atleast did her homework before the interview.

Govt should immediately remove her as brand ambassador of Assam.She is worst thing happened to northeast states

Agreed, she should have confirmed the facts, before speaking on an international stage.

She is tourism ambassador of Assam but she don't even care about yearly floods faced by Assamese .

Just look at her the way she is portraying Sikkim on such huge platform .This is so frustrating and disheartening. A person with her reach should have done her research properly before making these claims, especially at a time like this when the tourism has so much imp in state development. She does not deserve any fans in Sikkim.

the movie is about Nepali kids fleeing insurgency in Nepal and finding a safe haven in Sikkim. that's what she meant. just didn't word it well in one interview so it sounded like insurgency in Sikkim. She made a mistake, give her a break.

Your explanation is very reasonable.. but in the interview around 1:25, she said Sikkim doesn't have a film industry because of the insurgency there.

She also went on to state, "Sikkim is a small state in the Northeast of India which never had a film industry of its own or anyone who made films from there and this is the first film ever that's come out from this region because it is very troubled by insurgency... and like troubling situations..."

there's insurgency at it's border. The government of Sikkim claims that Pahuna (Priyanka's produced film) is it's first feature film so she's just saying what they told her.
