I have seen some people call SRK and Salman versatile on this forum and I am like W*F SRK has made his whole career by romancing women and Salman by showing style. And I don't think even these two think they are versatile.

Someone else who tries to be versatile among the younger girls is Shradda for me. Like the Haseena and the Tennis biopic recently. Pity she cannot act.

ETA: Do people consider Rekha versatile ? I am not familiar with her filmography much but movies like Umrao Jaan and Khoon Bhari Maang make me think so.

Vidya and Priyanka are not versatile. They can't pull of comedie like Bobby Jasoos and Ghanchakkar.

Aamir, Rani , Nawazzudin, Vidya , Priyanka, Deepika and Ranveer are versatile according to me.I Will explain why Ranveer and DP are on the list.
Versatile could mean doing different roles and making it their own and all of the above have done it exceptionally well.

Ranveer coz he played Varun in Lootera that was quite a mature performance and it was only his third film , kabir in DDD restrained and holding back much unlike Ranveer as a person and as Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani wherein he lived as Peshawa, Im sure Khilji will be great too he was great in each of these roles.

Deepika in the list coz she was fab as Veronica in Cocktail she was a revealation in that film Veronica at that point was very different from Deepika as a person someone who is super confident and ready to take on the world , Meenamma in CE, you dint see any trace of DP in that character and she was spot on as Meenamma her comic timing was ⭐️⭐️, her as Piku, another level of performance all together and her eyes , the emotions and the depth in it when she knows her dad is no more in the film.
DP in RL too the feisty Leela, loud and dramatic.

I would say bringing something new to the table everytime that people are excited to see their work. During the roast AIB made fun of arjun saying he has played only similar characters nothing very different from the other, same normal north indian guy.
Parineeti too she is a fab actress but its all bubbly for her..

Versatility is so tricky.
I don't know if I should appreciate versatile actors giving mediocre performances, or actors who don't experiment all that much but always do a good job.
Do you laud actors for being versatile even if they fail at it? And thereby encourage not-so-good performances? Or do we expect top-notch performances by letting actors find their niche?

I think too much 😆

ETA - Versatile is just being different and moving away from what the audience expects out of you, if you are established, or just doing such different things that they don't have a box to fit you in, if you are new. IMO.

Yes. People just assume an actor or actress is versatile because they play a different character than they normally play...

Though, how many actors fit the true definition of that? Do they all mold and adapt into that character?

There are a few good actors and actresses who really are versatile though.

Yes... There is an argument for everyone to be versatile. In bigger stars Aamir might be the only versatile actor in BW... And Vidya Balan in actresses... one of the reasons I most admire her is she likes to take up different roles.

p.s - pretty sure someone is going to talk about how versatile alia bhatt is 🤣

vidya balan is versatile? 🤣

biggest joke ever..

vidya SUCKS in comedy..

so u must include ''i feel vidya is versatile cause i'm her fan''.. as others don't feel she is.. & the fact is she isn't versatile AT ALL.

BW really needs to understand the term first. Versatility is not abt picking different roles but being able to excel in them in such a way tht u can't differentiate the actor from the character e.g Rani AB sir, Nawazuddin. I don't find any versatility in current lot of actors..maybe Alia in future cos she has potential.

EXACTLY!!

Finally someone said it... 👏

versatility is NOT about picking up different roles.. many bad actors took up various/different roles.. & SUCKED in them real bad..

so..does that make them versatile? HECK NO!

I find Kangana Versatile
Comedy, drama, action - she has embodied roles of varying graphs and excelled in all of them. Tanu weds Manu is the true showcase of her versatility - such contrasting characters and playing both to perfection is a rarity. She also has an impeccable comic timing, which elevates her higher in ranks of versatility
Rangoon, Fashion, Krrish, RevolverRani, Queen

Priyanka leads the pack among contemporaries. @Nitu explained it really well. There is no if and but... She has done it all

Besides these two- Sridevi (albeit her annoying voice), Madhuri, Rani, Tabu, Konkana - No one can beat them when it comes down to this

Really? how are Konkona & Tabu versatile? Konkona & Tabu can't play glamorous roles ie. Chandni or Paro or Chandramukhi.. cause they don't look glamorous plus horrible dancers

Just imagining Konkona as Paro makes me laugh like crazy..😆
