Akki had Holiday which was a South remake and many more. Ajay's Drishyam again a Malayalam remake. I can't say the same about South making Hindi blockbusters as South movies though movies like Dangal, Dhoom are regularly dubbed in Telugu and Tamil during the opening of the BW movie itself, not after..

On topic: Khans are too dependent on starpower...sometimes they spoil movies to do what they think will appease their fan base. SRK and Salman are more guilty of that. There is only so much a movie can which is made to appease fanbases. Khans themselves as debutants had proved there is no need for starpower for a blockbuster hit.

Whether people agree or not, sachaai toh yahi hain aur sach toh kadwa hi hota hai. 😆

Honestly, its not impossible to give a HGOTY without major holidays, but Khans have habituated people to watch their movies big holidays. Eid only has one day holiday, but Salman has made it a habit for people to watch his movie during Eid. Same is the case with Aamir. Christmas is incomplete without an Aamir film. Other stars too come on Eid and Christmas, but they aren't as succesful as Salman and Aamir, coz public is used to see these two superstars during these festivals. Khans are basically playing a test match. They cant make 4 to 5 movies hits in the same year like Rajesh Khanna used to do in his prime, so they came up with this festival monopoly and that is why they are ruling even after crossing 50.

Other than holidays, you won't find highest grossing films more frequent. At the same time, if you go through khan's hit filmography you will find many big hits not coming on holidays, that's why they are ruling with holiday & without holidays also.

4 Block busters are not less...even during Diwali period, only 2 movies Golmaal 3 and Krrish 3 were Blockbusters, and both were from popular franchise. Rajneeti was a Super Hit. Housefull 3 and Holiday also released during this period and both were Clean Hits. When Kangana who is considered to be having no star-power gave a 150 Crore grosser on this period,

So what if Baahubali 2 is breaking records during IPL period?? Baahubali itself was a bigger brand than Salman and Aamir. It didn't needed any big star or holidays to break records.

I know that Khans have given major grossers on non-holiday too, but all those are of previous decades. This festival system was started from this decade. Salman's most big hits are of this decade and all are released on big holidays. Same with Aamir, Ghajini and 3 Idiots were also released on Christmas. Most importantly, Salman and Aamir came in their prime in this decade only.

Festival Holiday has always extra benefit of pushing collection further. Be it Hollywood / Bollywood or any other industry, you will find Highest grosser coming in Festival period only.

All 3 are Christmas Release, next 2 films Jurassic world / Avengers were June/May release, check their collection Domestic / Worldwide, you will see how big Christmas Season is worldwide.

Bollywood

Aamir's all 5 ATG are Christmas release, Salman's Last 10 Hits in which 9 came from Eid/Diwali/Christmas, 1 Ready Non-Holiday Blockbuster.

Baahubali 2 is 1 exceptional case which can't be set as example for Non-Holiday release. This is 2nd part of Bahubali: The Beginiing which was big hit, left with a suspense question which created this much hype that ppl are crazy to watch this film. Has any new film, regional film without known star of south has created havoc like bahubali 2? Not even Bahubali 1 could do that, this is euphoria created based on part 1, After theatrical release, Tv Screenings, Curiousity was build up, now they came in april, a open field when no big hindi Film is here to compete, like Part 1 was clashing with Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

If Bahubali 2 would have come on Eid with Tubelight & Made 41 Cr, that would have big blow to mighty khan.

Bahubali 2 is Exceptional work, comes once in a while, can't be repeated.
