I do agree Bahubali is once in a lifetime, but watch BW will think the audience will go for fantasy now and we will have bad fantasy movies churned out starring starkids who cannot act and minimum effort put in within the shortest time frame.

There is nothing wrong with star power. Rajnikanth (who was a stage, a good actor if you look at his earlier films) has built the majority of his career around the Thalaiva personality. But the audience is not blind. There have been a few spectacular failures like Baba and Lingaa lost money for distributors too. But during Kabaali people paid $25 for a ticket for Rajni, so there is that.

Ergo, nothing wrong with star power. If people want to pay for a person vs story more power to them. But do not underestimate the intelligence of the audience and do not take them for granted.

Festival Holiday has always extra benefit of pushing collection further. Be it Hollywood / Bollywood or any other industry, you will find Highest grosser coming in Festival period only.

Hollywood

1. Star Wars

2. Avatar

3. Titanic

All 3 are Christmas Release, next 2 films Jurassic world / Avengers were June/May release, check their collection Domestic / Worldwide, you will see how big Christmas Season is worldwide.

Bollywood

Aamir's all 5 ATG are Christmas release, Salman's Last 10 Hits in which 9 came from Eid/Diwali/Christmas, 1 Ready Non-Holiday Blockbuster.

Baahubali 2 is 1 exceptional case which can't be set as example for Non-Holiday release. This is 2nd part of Bahubali: The Beginiing which was big hit, left with a suspense question which created this much hype that ppl are crazy to watch this film. Has any new film, regional film without known star of south has created havoc like bahubali 2? Not even Bahubali 1 could do that, this is euphoria created based on part 1, After theatrical release, Tv Screenings, Curiousity was build up, now they came in april, a open field when no big hindi Film is here to compete, like Part 1 was clashing with Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

If Bahubali 2 would have come on Eid with Tubelight & Made 41 Cr, that would have big blow to mighty khan.

Bahubali 2 is Exceptional work, comes once in a while, can't be repeated.

Problem with starpower is it can give an opening like Kabali got. But the film itself wasnt good so lifetime remained below many films.

Star power works on openings IMO. They do not put much effort into the movie. I would not argue Rajni movies are great films, but many are great entertainers and have high repeat value. And definitely family movies. Cinematically, among the chaff there are gems like Baasha, Thalapathi and many more that stand the test of time.

You mean "Pan Indian". They do regularly deliver blockbusters regionally,. Also many of Salman's hits have mostly been South remakes, blockbusters like Bodyguard, Kick, Tere Naam a Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil film remake respectively.

Akki had Holiday which was a South remake and many more. Ajay's Drishyam again a Malayalam remake. I can't say the same about South making Hindi blockbusters as South movies though movies like Dangal, Dhoom are regularly dubbed in Telugu and Tamil during the opening of the BW movie itself, not after..
