I have memories of watching Saans and Kora Kagaz as a kid with my mom and grandmother. They were indeed progressive shows sans the drama.

Kekta started the trend of regressive saas bahu dramas. From then on, there has been no looking back. 😕 Its like a competition these days about who makes a more regressive show. 🤢

Ekta Mata and her 2 favorite heroines ...aankhon mein khushi ke aansoo aa gaye 😆

Its true Kekta started ALL the typical soap trends with her blockbuster shows but at least we could laugh at those shows for the sheer absurdity and nonsense

Current shows are nauseatingly regressive, cannot even laugh at them, the heroines are so submissive and weak, male leads are aggressive bullies. Ekta heroines used to be more spirited and commanding

Now Ekta's shows are also real torture, like that Kumkum Bhagya, no story, no development, only dragging same old crap for years.

Ekta has become more kanjoos over the years so she uses same actors and characters for years, whereas back then she used to introduce new characters and there was more movement in the stories, not stuck in the same place like a broken record (KKB)

Who else, besides Bappi Lahiri, wakes up in the morning with dus tola of sona (bling bling)? No prizes for guessing: our TV actors. Here are some of the most ridiculous things that can only happen in Indian TV serials.

p.s. Bappi da is a legend, you're not. Period.

1. Hero loves heroine ' marries her ' divorces her ' then marries her sister ' divorces her too ' marries the heroine again

2. Rich Guy duped, loses house to bad guy, but prefers to stay as a servant in the same house

3. Women sleep, eat and bath in style. Heavy jewellery only!

4. For one Male character, there are 5 Female characters

5. Having a baby is dangerous. It will definitely get lost or exchanged

6. More background noise than dialogues

7. The lead character - betrayed foolishly by others, has an extremely unhappy life

8. Grandmothers and grandfathers live for more than 200 years

9. There's only 1 temple in the world where everyone meets

10. Something bad happened ' Earthen lamp out. (Internet of Things?)

11. Hero Dies ' Family cremates him ' his duplicate appears ' family still believes dead hero's back

12. News - important or not, is shared only when everyone including pets to Ramukaka of the house are present

13. Either the Mother-in-law(saas) is evil or the Daughter-in-law(bahu) is evil

14. Plane crashes ' girl dies, 200 episodes later ' girl's back after plastic surgery with face, height, weight, voice changed

15. Powerpoint Presentations - the only thing businessmen do

16. And at last, aging is for losers. We stay forever young! Thanks to Ekta Kapoor Jaributti

On a serious note, television is a powerful medium and has a great responsibility of educating the masses. Clearly, we don't see that happening in our country.

Time for a change?

Sakshi is one of the best actresses. Loved her acting in Kahani ghar ghar ki but not the show.

I agree with the ones who say EKta ruined TV.

Used to love Swabhimaan, Hip Hip Hurray, Malgudi days etc. Older shows were and are class apart.

EKta has given job to so many people with big salary...and first 200-250 episode of her most serials r not bad...we cant deny it😆 after 200 episodes actors and ekta keep geting money but as a audience we can change channel if we r bored...

I only admire Ekta because she has created so many jobs for common man...

And who can forget Tara, Parampara, Banegi Apni Baat, Saans, Kora Kaagaz ?

The shows had their unique identity. Ekta ji and ruined everything with OVERDOSE.

AGREE. Ekta had a huge role to play. But there have been some progressive shows over the years which unfortunately have not been watched by many people. You can't blame her for ruining it all. The audience too hasn't been receptive. People complain about lack of quality shows on ITV but when progressive shows do come along, they don't watch.

The YRF shows like Rishta.Com

EVEREST

Sumit Sambhal Lega

Bin Kuch Kahe (currently airing)

There were only few good ones that gained popularity like sasural Genda Phool.

I don't think she ruined it , Ekta did shows, which audiences loved and still loving .. But Tulsi,Parvati were way more progressive than Gopi Bahu and brigade

Sakshi looks gorgeous.. I don't think Ekta ruined TV.. it is the audience who made her shows a hit and the audience who made shows like Rishta.com and the likes flop.. Even now, YRKKH, SNS, Naagin and DABH are the kinda shows that win in the TRP game despite other options being available so ya, it is the audience who decided what kinda content they want to see
