Kangana: really a crowd puller or just overhyped due to few films?

Overhyped for sure.

Nothing against her. But I cant help but laugh when people compare her stardom to that of Katrina or Deepika.

As the TM is comparing Kangana with Alia in stardom, so let's compare their box office record ONLY in those films in which both are the biggest stars.

Kangana:
TWM: Hit
Miley na miley Hum: Flop
Rajjo: Disaster
Queen: Hit
Revolver Rani: Flop
TWMR: Blockbuster
Katti Batti: Flop
Rangoon: Disaster

Alia:
Highway: Below Average
Shandaar: Flop
Udta Punjab: Average

So Kangana has many failures but she also has 2 hits and one big blockbuster. While Alia is yet to give a clean hit on her own. Kangana is no crowd puller but what really makes Alia a crowd puller?? At the time of 2 States and Kapoor and Sons, Arjun and Sid were coming after the success of Gunday and EV, so they were the bigger stars in those movies. Fact is no actress is a crowd puller right now in bollywood, and another fact is no other actress has given a blockbuster crossing 150 crores, with a movie in which they were the only star apart from Kangana.

Won't say she is a crowd puller. Neither do I have a good opinion on her right now offscreen wise. But onscreen she has always been magical in her films. Well at least in films that also had strong roles for her to perform. Like Gangster, Woh Lamhe, Life in a Metro, Fashion, Queen and TWMR.

TWM came when R Madhavan was much bigger star

As for Kapoor and Sons - Alia was bigger star than any of the cast and same applies with Dear Zindagi as it was never promoted as SRK film unless you wanna credit SRK and make it seem like his release opened below 10cr.

You're looking at verdicts of those above but if you look at opening of Shandaar or Udta Punjab - both can ace any of Kangana's films opening 😆 now you can't deny their opening day figures

If you look at her flops/disasters, only 3 movies were riding on her popularity - RR, Rangoon, and KB.

Now, unless you give credit to Katrina for ETT, Anushka for PK, or, Kareena for BB, you have to realize that actresses in Bollywood aren't a major draw. People hail Deepika for CE, and I do believe she stole the show, nonetheless, it was SRK's starpower and Rohit's connect with the audience that made the movie a Blockbuster.

The only female-centric movies that have received some sort of opening are Fashion, Heroine, Mary Kom, and TWMR. That's that.

She's never been a crowd puller. The hits she's recieved imo, are due to her acting but also due to the scripts.

That said, she is a pretty good actress. Her strength imo, lies in her ability to disappear into roles and imbue them with more depth than initially imagined (although this doesn't always hold). For example, in Fashion, despite being on screen for less time, her Shonali felt more real than Priyanka's character, and with more depth to her. Tanu Weds Manu Again also speaks for itself (both Tanu and Datto felt like two, actual, real different ppl).

However, she also has her weakness. Her dialogue delivery is a big and very visible one.
