And if its sexy look that is the aim, what better thing than a saree? Nothing is sexier than a saree in my onion (provided it is carried well and not like Naagin)😆

The problem is people think of you as modern if and only if you wear such clothes
We need to understand that our thinking should be modern, Wearing such clothes wont make you modern but changing your mindset does

The very deep V neck dresses are hideous on almost all women. I don't know why they wear it. The flat chested ones look like ironing boards and the one with boobs end up looking like po*n stars.

What's the point of a dress like this? It would look so much better if it was a smaller opening at the neck. Just shows her looking all skeletal and flat/saggy.

Look at this monstrosity

In case of Indian actresses wearing them, most gowns are like this. All the designer gown feature a lot of skin show. The few that don't are worn by 60+ women like Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda so the younger ones won't wear them.
Most actresses get them for free so of course they will wear them. Nobody is really buying them.

I thought its all a case of demand and supply.. If the demand for such gowns decreases, the supply would too..

A few years ago, there was a segment on TV - a young girl aged maybe 13,14 went shopping at the mall with her mother, she couldn't find clothes for everyday wear ( not for parties) that were not revealing...
She wanted modest clothing (modest by western standards, she was a white, American girl)

She wrote a letter to the store manager about this, he wrote her back saying "This is current fashion among teenagers but I'll order clothes to your liking soon" That was nice of him.
