Paid article and dubious one.

Was she not raped again and hence committed suicide. Her husband is visually impaired and there is no protection from police. The article reminds me of a famous Russian short story about a doctor whose son died and who is called by a rich man who thinks his wife is ill. Turns out the wife has run away. And how in their mutual grief they resent each other instead of reaching out. Morale of the story is "Grief is lonely, Happiness is universal". This article is doubly pathetic when taken into consideration that the man himself is as helpless as the female. Guilt and shock must have hit him hard as Indian society puts onus of protecting wives on husband. And he failed absolutely.

Looks like the writer hasn't watched the whole movie.
Supriya committed suicide because she was raped again.

But I do agree with one point that the writer made was Women have always been shown as the most vulnerable ones in bollywood. In olden movies, whenever the hero had problems with the villain the women and even children in his life had to pay the price.

Thankfully, not every bollywood movie is like this nowadays.

Looks like a paid article since the author has not watched the entire movie.

SPOILERS:
He is just angry that night at himself that he could not protect her. Su is as well not at all a weak character, she decides to move on with life. But the real reason for suicide is the rape which happens again next day. Rapists say they will come regularly to rape her. Law and police is not helping them and her husband is as well visually impaired like her. Helplessness when it happens again is what makes her commit suicide.

We judge people too soon. I felt she is so weak when she committed suicide but we got to know the reason later.

SPOILERS:

The fact that Rohan just sits there and says nothing when she says "I know I am not the same for you anymore. You can leave me and go away." is a big giveaway to his disturbing mindset. Instead of consoling her, he is sitting there, sulking.

Part of her suicide could be Rohan himself. He could not accept her when she was raped once, how could he accept her when the same thing happened again? She felt lonely and miserable..had he given her more confident and assured her that things would go back to normal again, she may have had some motivation to live. But her soul died when he remained silent and sat there sulking.

But taking the life of a proven mass murderer, terrorist and bootlegger and making it look sympathetic hence completely misguiding the people and spreading a wrong message is totally cool...Oh yeah, they claim to have only taken tid bits from the said murderers life and made it into a story of their own...Since the people according to them are stupid fools, it must be totally fine!

No one here even said raes is better. why drag another film and completely go offtrack from the point discussed.

And no i did not say that rapes happened only in the 90s. I said rape as a plot device feels dated like in the 90s film. And rape here IS simply a plot device. They could substitute it with anything - say murder of his parents or murder of his child and the story will still be the same. its not about the rape as such but about the thrilling idea of a visually impaired man outmaneuver others.

And no, i am not saying that murder is preferable to rape either.

its just a personal preference but lately i keep thinking - whether it is tv shows or movies - if you cannot show rape/ sexual harassment/ sexual assault in a mature, sensitive manner then don't even pick up that issue. This is not about HR vs SRK. barring like 2-3 film makers, bollywood overall doesn't even have the capability of dealing with rape in a realistic, sensitive and progressive manner.

@red:I don't know...part of me want to agree with you here but then I don't know if the effect will be the same in terms of the emotions that can be showcased...

@Black: Agree!
