Interesting article and I havent seen the movie.
Well, Oh, the rapist comes next day to rape again?? Wow, I mean it is like a husband who forces himself on his wife without her approval and does it all the time and gets away with it. Suicide or accepting and letting the person physically violate her is like allowing it to happen.

Well there are some interesting takes on this article. One shouldnt have themes like this when the latest trend is raping.

I disagree with the author. He forgot about the suicide letter in which she clearly states that she knows how much he loves her and that he is devastated because he couldnt do anything for her. And the reason why she is suiciding is because it happened again and she cannot see HIM go through all this if this keeps happening every now and then. She also mentions in the letter that 'I just have one guilt that i'm leaving you alone in this world'. So this itself explains that she knows he doesnt have anyone except her, and that he cannot even think about leaving her just because she was raped. Maybe she too said those things the previous night in an emotional state, but she dint mean it.

So this might be the reason why he was not guilty, as she clearly stated in the letter that she knows he loves her too much due to which he is so broken. So to spare him all this pain if this happens again and again, she suicides.

So part of her reason for committing suicide is that HE would feel helpless and traumatized because SHE was raped. But what about her feelings? Why is her rape shown as being more traumatic for him, than for her? Why is she shown to be apologetic about her rape and trying to comfort her husband when she is the one who was violated? Why does he need to be comforted, to begin with?

I would argue that the article isn't incorrect in stating that the portrayal of the aftermath of sexual violence in Kaabil leaves a lot to be desired because her rape becomes all about how it affects him.

@Black: Agree!

I think hrithik has the ability to pull it off. fan wars aside, i have always like HR as an actor. He has the ability to make me cry in an emotional scene. In agneepath, there is the scene where is sister is being auctioned off, and though the entire scene is about being a hero, he made me feel that look - here is a brother who is desperate to rescue his kid sister and not just a star bashing 100 villains at once bec it looks cool onscreen. Thats why i was so disappointed when i saw kaabil's trailer - revenge story about a rape ??? ... urghhh .. its 2017 people, lets treat rape with a little bit more gravitas

Hey bips i think the concept of the film is far more than just avenging a rape, I think the film's major highlight is the visual impairity of the lead character and how such handicap affects lives of innocent people in our countries. Moreover, because its a revenge saga, so it had t have a love story to make it tragic and something that makes the audience cry.

And as spoilers convey that taking revenge for her rape was the last option he had, they showed how corrupt the law is, and how helpless both the blind people were to even ask for justice.

If makers wanted to make a movie that gives a message about rape then obviously the movie would be women centric, the movie is being made to look like that it tried to give a social message whereas the agenda is different, its purely from the view point of audience and how they perceive it

why singling out kaabil?
does our tv too nt show same?
rape attempted rape n does hero nt comes to rescue?
so if anyone is to be blamed is it nt our broadcasting department/censor board?
who feels drug abuse should nt be shown bt rape
alcohol consumption can be shown?
should we then nt ask munni shila laila etc etc why
they dance surrounded by dozens men who looks at her
like some eatable thing n pours alcohol too n dance like
mad men n she too takes her thumka?for what all this?
item no. for what?extra attention of whom?does the ladies
go to see gyrating women?or does our male population goes?
so are those vulgar things nt put to entertain the males of our
society?are they nt cultural n moral degradation?
forget this ..those comedy circus where gutti mutti cross dress
as women..n when heroes comes to promote movies they sit on their
laps n kisses ..why do they dare dress as women n kiss?
then those adds..spray perfume n ladies are shown running like ants
run towards sugar piece..is that nt disgusting n horrible?
where are those women mukti morchas then?
why do they nt say stop insulting us like this?
is rape the only way to insult women?
n nt these disgusting caricature in the name of entertainment n adds?

Not really. The movie tells the audience that she committed suicide because she didn't want Rohan to be so deeply traumatized by her repeated assault. It doesn't really answer why he's shown to be more traumatized than her or why her feelings about her rape are playing second fiddle to his, other than as a mechanism to drive the story forward.

I get that he realizes in the studio that his stoic silence was wrong when she was apologetic about the situation and catering to his feelings but IMO, the movie places a much greater emphasis on his trials and tribulations about her rape than it does on Su's.

I am yet to watch it but your questions have raised valid points and if the movie never attempted to answer these simple questions, I don't know! Anyways, I guess I will know after watching it myself...
