Raees Film Review!

Most Shah Rukh Khan fans are totally swooned by his undying romance as Rahul and Raj, but I was totally attracted to the fearless, grudgy and sexy character Raees! SRK might be fifty one but he doesn't look a day older than 35 and has definitely proven that we as an audience should NOT stop seeing Shah Rukh on the big-screen ever!

Raees a Rahul Dholakia directed film which will keep you on edge from beginning to end. This isn't your typical gangster' film. In fact Shah Rukh has introduced a whole new level of suave and tactic style to a character who may seem wrong in the eyes of the law, but delivers impeccable entrepreneurial style to the public.

Rahul and the rest of the writers of the film have designed each and every character so distinctly you are eager to know Raees' next move along with other characters like his opposing man, Ambalal Majmudar played by none other than Nawazuddin Siddiqui. This chemistry portrayed on-screen between both SRK and Nawazuddin was glorifying. Like Shah Rukh has mentioned in an interview with Anupama Chopra, he wanted to create a romantic like relationship' between his character and Nawazuddin. Additionally Raees' sidekick Sadiq, played by another outstanding actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub is truly one of my favorite actors. The list of actors shown in the film is endless and the casting director of the film deserves an applaud. I cannot forget to mention Mahira Khan who not only is beautiful, but her performance was infectious and she meshed so well with Shah Rukh on-screen, I wouldn't even mind seeing them in a another film together!

The story, the dialogues, the performance- it all felt like I was seeing a real story appear on-screen in front of me today. While the violence level was extremely high, I was happy to see there were no cheesy fight scenes like what the Indian audience eye is used to, and nor did they look fake'. I had an extreme James Bond type feel in me during all the fight scenes, and I know SRK was probably totally in all awe bringing out the inner Bond in him.

Ram Sampath's music of the film seamlessly fit well in the film, it was a perfect balance to a Hindi action crime thriller film. From celebrations through Udi Udi Jaye to romanticizing in Zaalima to Sunny Leone's remake of Laila Main Laila.

Raees is most definitely a must watch film on the big-screen, and not just because its a Shah Rukh Khan film but because the film on a whole is totally worth your entertainment buck!

Let me start with Nawaz , the guy is so good! The humor that his character brings in is also very subtle but so sharp! I'm so glad it is Nawaz who did this role because his screen presence is one that you needed opposite Raees. Both Shahrukh and Nawaz own the screen during the scenes where one gets to see the banter between them and otherwise too.
I haven't really read all the reviews here so I don't know what the verdict here is when it comes to Mahira but I thought she was damn good in her role man. Especially her scenes towards the end where one gets to see her being emotional I thought were so well done! I'm glad one got to see Mahira opposite Shahrukh in this movie, I personally am not much of a fan of her work in Humsafar but I think that has more to do with the fact that I just found whatever I saw of that show too melodramatic .
Zeeshan was again spot on when it comes to his role. I m a big of the actor he's and he showed once again as to how natural he's on screen. Many people have called him a sidekick to Raees but I won't use that term as I thought he brought a lot more to the role of Sadik.
That little kid who plays Raees at the start is such a good actor too man! Wanted to mention as to how much of a perfect casting that was as well.
Now coming to the man himself...Raees :D. Shahrukh has slayed it once again when it comes to portraying a character that is negative. His walk , his swagger , his body language ..he owns the screen when he's on it! People went mad as soon as his name appeared on screen and then there were so many scenes where folks were cheering at his dialogues , be it the scene where he throws back the watch to Atul Kulkarni's character or the one where you first see him on screen or the one where he says "mai dhanda karta hoon , mai dharm ka dhanda nahi karta"..even though one was watching it in a multiplex , the atmosphere was definitely like the one at the single screen theaters! I don't think there is anyone out there who could have played this role.
Coming to that above dialogue , can I just say I'm so freaking glad Rahul made this movie. I know Shahrukh stated that they had to commercialize it a little and after watching it I could make out what they tried to tone down. It's also something that Shahrukh has mentioned in an interview of his but I'm glad there were still elements in it that gave you enough in terms of a Rahul Dholakia movie.
The ending got to me man! I don't know why but it freaking reminded me of Darr. This is like the third Shahrukh movie in a row where I have teared up at the ending , FAN was one where I bawled my eyes out and then there was Dear Zindagi where the last scene between Alia and Shahrukh got to me and now this. That scene in the jeep between Nawaz's character and Raees is one of the best scenes of the movie. The moment Raees says tell my wife the truth and hands over his glasses and chain to Nawaz's character...damn...yeah...that moment definitely gets to you man.
I'm so freaking glad Shahrukh did Raees. I'd love to see him work with Rahul Dholakia in more movies that are grounded in reality yet commercial. Raees has that balance like I stated before . This movie again gives you a glimpse of the versatility Shahrukh has as an actor. I have always stated he's one of the most underrated actors out there. He has owned pretty much every genre he has worked in so he is just one of those who makes it look darn easy when it ain't that easy. His performance is Raees will be counted as one of his best performances. The intensity , the charm , the emotional depth that he has given to this character is just so darn amazing!
I'm again so freaking glad that Rahul wanted him to play Raees and a big thank you as well to the writers who wrote those kickass dialogues . The characters too are so well sketched out man! Kudos to everyone , the writers , the director , the actors and the producers for taking on this subject and making a darn good movie!
I'll go with 3.5 stars for this one!

Raees Day 2 Box Office Collection Update: The early trends are suggesting that Shahrukh Khan starrer has an earth shattering start on Thursday. The film has shown huge jumps as the overall occupancy is much higher than yesterday. Here is our live updates of Raees 2nd day collection.

Raees Day 2 Box Office Collection Update

Morning Shows Report:

The morning shows have started with a bang. It has witnessed more than 20% jump from yesterday morning which itself was on the higher side. The growth is higher in multiplexes while the single screens are almost in the same range. Raees has the best start in Mumbai, Delhi/NCR and Rajasthan which has around 85% occupancy. The single screens have grown at places and are steady at others.

West Bengal and South India has not shown much growth as they were already too high and has consumed a lot of capacity already. But it will be the jump in North India which is important. As reported yesterday, East Punjab has underperformed while Delhi is just about decent. If it manages to have a steady run in next couple of days then it will go on to become a huge grosser as North India tends to drive the film in the long run.

Today is a national holiday for Republic Day so Raees collection is getting a huge boost. At many places, the film is already sold out. In the afternoon and evening, almost all of the multiplexes and single screens will record housefull occupancy. The advance booking is terrific for today. So Raees Thursday collection will easily go over 25 crore.

Noon Shows Report:

Raees has gone to housefull mode in the noon shows as the overall occupancy is upto 90%. At single screens, the craze is unimaginable as the tickets are not available or being sold in black. The film is set for a huge second day and will be the highest ever collection on Republic Day holiday despite having a clash.

But it is likely to be affected by the cricket match between India and England in the evening.

Raees 2nd Day Box Office Collection Early Estimates:

As per the very early trends, it looks like that Raees 2nd day collection will go over 25 crore. It has chances to collect higher if there is more growth later on.

Raees has collected 20.42 crore on its opening day. The film has comfortably beaten Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil with margin of more than double. It is the fourth highest opening day for Shahrukh Khan.
