Sometimes it feels as if the songs these days are created just for the heck of it. :(

I know it seems like today's actresses are more talented because they get better roles but there was far less nepotism in 90s and just fewer good roles. Nostalgia !

Really?

There was Sanjay Dutt / Anil Kapoor / Rishi Kapoor / Kumar Gaurav / Pooja Bhatt / Kajol / Karisma Kapoor / Aamir Khan / Salman Khan / Tabu / Farha Naaz / Pratibha Sinha / Madhoo / Twinkle Khanna / Rinke Khanna / Sunny Deol / Bobby Deol / Akshay Khanna / Rahul Khanna / Saif Ali Khan / Raveena Tandon / Ajay Devgan / Fardeen Khan / Pooja Bedi / Kirron Kher to name a few 😳

The 90s are my fav too. But looking at it objectively it's true that whichever era you grew up in, you feel that is the best ever. I've said this too many times now. ⭐️

How many of these were so at the top of their game that it was impossible for newcomers to come in and be given a chance.

All those highlighted not only had box office hits, but were also given awards, sometimes undeservedly too, which is not the case as much today. Heck Raveena + Sunny even won National Awards. The likes of Fardeen and Twinkle were given several projects despite lack of talent, all due to their name. Who falls into the category today??

Alia Bhatt is a great actress. Her father hasn't even actually helped her career at all. She's done zero films with him or his banner. K-jo took her under his wing. Pooja Bhatt did around 10 films with Mahesh Bhatt on the other hand!
Bobby won a Filmfare. Akshaye won a Filmfare. Rahul, Ajay, Raveena, Saif all won Best debut awards. But Alia didn't. Tiger didn't. Varun didn't. Arjun didn't.
Nepotism was far far stronger in the 90s.

Karishma Raveena and Said struggled a lot. Sunny's success is overhyped and no one at the time was successful from the first their second film forward. Like Ranbir, Alia, among others. Plus how many outsiders do we have today besides Kriti Sanon from the younger lot compared to the 90s?

- Karisma did struggle a lot. But if she wasn't a Kapoor girl, who would give her so many chances?? She would have ended up like Mandakini 😉

- Same with Raveena. She's got several film connection through her dad. She even recently tweeted about being on the set of a film with Amitabh Bachchan at the age of 7. If that isn't nepotism then I don't know what is. Someone like Ayesha Jhulka had more talent than her but zero "godfathers" so hence she disappeared.

- Saif wouldn't have got any films if it wasn't for his lineage. People still complain about his dialogue delivery but look at his work in 1993/1994/1995 😛

- Sunny's first film Betaab was one of the biggest hits of the year and he was nominated for Best Actor for it. He went on to do 13 films in the next 5 years. Similarly, Sanjay Dutt's first film 2 years earlier was a hit (9th highest grosser of the year). He went on to do 11 films in the next 5 years.

- If you look at the winners of Filmfare Best Debut Male: 1988-2003 the percentage of winners from a film-family is 84%. That's EIGHTY-FOUR PER CENT! 🥱

But look at the winners from this decade:
2010: Ranveer Singh
2011: Vidyut Jamwal
2012: Ayushman Khurrana (beating Arjun Kapoor, Varun Dhawan)
2013: Dhanush
2014: Fawad Khan (beating Tiger Shroff)
2015: Sooraj Pancholi

The difference is clear to see... 😃

- Nepotism has always been less favourable, like most things, to the females. But still most of the successful girls today are "outsiders": Deepika / Priyanka / Kangana / Anushka / Vidya.
Even girls like Alia, Sonakshi, Shraddha are proving themselves to be good artistes. The audience today will reject and has rejected lallu-pappu daddies boys with no talent.

The point is, it is still there, but nowhere near as bad as the 90s ⭐️
