Controversy helps a film in a major way if the subject of the film is controversial like PK, I know a lot of people went to watch it after the right wing parties started creating trouble by calling it anti Hindu, people were curious to see what exactly is in the film that they are opposed to whereas on this case the controversy did help to keep the film in news but it didn't make people curious to know about the content of the film. Regardless of the content and Genre...Controversy helps a film..Period!
