The point is u can't generalise the entire bunch who went to watch Adhm, some went for controversy, some for kjo, some for music, trailer etc. Let's see today's collection, if it does more then opening day it means people want to watch the film irrespective of the controversy.

Of course, goes without saying! But you said the controversy did not help the movie much...

Given that ADHM got a 20 cr headstart over Shivay thanks to the controversy. It helps win the perception battle when people are wondering which movie to watch. So it would definitely be embarrassing for Kjo if Shivay starts beating ADHM now. Will show how poor the film and WOM is as people who already watched Shivay many didnt like it either.

Ajay Devgn vs KRK,massive promotions on TV,online,hit music by Pritam,great reviews,kjo packing in Srk-alia along with RK-AS-ARB.. And more screens.

But remember AD vs Late Yash Chopra directed film starring superstars SRK Katrina Anushka..with ARR music..and more number of screens..

Clashing with SRK has given him big status among his fans..or who even cared for his films on social media.

AD is now one man army against the bourgeois in Bollywood

ADHM with all the advantages I mentioned and more number of screens at high priced plexes earns 13 crores

Ek akeyla AD who earns 10 crores

Controversy helps a film in a major way if the subject of the film is controversial like PK, I know a lot of people went to watch it after the right wing parties started creating trouble by calling it anti Hindu, people were curious to see what exactly is in the film that they are opposed to whereas on this case the controversy did help to keep the film in news but it didn't make people curious to know about the content of the film. Cos they already its a ROM com typical kjo film. I think the opening would have been more or less same ..

They should have released it next week. Diwali was on sunday so it did not really helped in any way instead because people were busy in preprations its effected opening of the movie.
