I have seen the Rajeev Khandelwal craze IRL. The reason why I laugh at FK's popularity is coz we have seen it all and more during Rajeev's days when he was on top . There is still a Rajeev FC on IF . After KTH was over, Rajeev-Aamna FC ran very actively for 5/6 years on IF. I have yet to see more popular TV actor than Rajeev.
Why he didn't make it in BW? Coz he didn't have solid BW backing and during those days, TV actors were looked down upon . If Rajeev was popular in 2013, he would have been a star by now !!

Indeed Rajeev was popular back then. But not the only one... That time Hiten, Amar and the one who played Om was popular too. Later came Harshad and Iqbal who shared same kind of popularity and even now its still there and not alone online but irl too. Then in this generation we still have Sobti KSG and many more who have way bigger following and popularity and still trying their luck in same way how Rajeev struggled to establish himself. I still remember the amount of fun and bashing Rk used to get on social media like how Sobti n KSG gets now. I m actually suprised to see the praises here for RK... As for Fawad n RK's popularity matters its the same, RK was popular and was signed for Pak show like how Fawad being signed here now.

^^ Its true that back in the last decade, there were a number of actors who enjoyed huge popularity along with Rajeev. Perhaps, they were more popular and had greater substance than the TV heartthrobs of today. But most of them got typecasted in a certain kind of role and ultimately lost their sheen. They tried their luck in Bollywood but failed miserably. But the reason Rajeev stands out is bcoz, he could make Aamir work. That 90 min film had only him on the screen for all the time and ran houseful for weeks due to good word of mouth. It is not everyday that an actor from TV or for that matter even actors from BW deliver that kind of brilliance. Hence, for me Rajeev would always be different from any of the yesteryear TV stars as well as the ones of today. That he could not make it BIG by the norms of the industry can have a variety of explanations but what he did , nevertheless, deserves applause !

I think enough people have mentioned the correct reasons. More than BW backing, I think he came into BW in an era where you couldn't necessarily rely on good scripts with unknown brands. I understand that he wanted to make good movies, but at some point, unless you're a star kid who can afford 3-4 flops in a row, you have got to earn commercial value as well. I can totally understand his stance of wanting to be a part of intelligent scripts and cinema; but I'm not too sure that's how BW once worked when he came around. Look at SSR now, it's a tad bit easier, but he still needed a MSD to be more widely known. It's just a fact, as an outside, you have to have commercial success to stay.


I still like him better than a lot of the BW actors making transition though, and I'll tell you why. 'Cause he's not afraid to jump back and forth. I have watched a couple of episodes of Reporters and I loved him. He's still easily one of the best out there, but it's kind of sad 'cause his kind of television isn't yet popular on Indian TV where the Ektas and GKs still predominate.

I don't get what people liked in reporters, but then again my opinion never matches with IF anyway!
