M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story has scored a fantastic first weekend grossing around 62 crore nett in its Hindi format over the first weekend. There was a Tamil and Telugu version of the film which has grossed around 3,75 crore nett which is also pretty decent and better than films like Happy New Year and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The collections of the film are excellent all over over barring North India. In North India the film has done good business but has not performed as well as it has in other parts of the contry. Comparing with other films, the weekend is in the same range as films like Bang Bang (Holiday release) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewani. It is also a bit unlucky that the huge Gandhi Jayanti holiday fell on Sunday which gave a minimal boost as Sunday is a holiday anyway. If it came on Monday, the film would have really got a big boost.The weekend business of M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story is as follows
Friday - 20,00,00,000
Saturday - 19,00,00,000
Sunday - 23,00,00,000
TOTAL - 62,00,00,000
The weekend ensures a HIT film despite high costs and the next few days will tell how big of a hit the film can be and whether the industry gets the second BLOCKBUSTER of the year. The trend of the film is better than the weekend numbers suggest as the film did have capacity constraints at major multiplexes due to the length of the film. So although there is not much growth over the weekend the film has recorded high occupancy rates which should mean that the film will hold on the weekdays.

So after the initial euphoria has subsided actual wom is coming into play. Film has certainly not lived up to the expectations of audience. Many people even in this forum have written that film doesn't quite reveal any untold mystery of his life. It's quite predictable and boring if you have actually followed msd life closely.

Dhoni - The Untold Story' Has A Steady Monday, Begins Its Chase To Be 2nd Highest Grosser Of 2016

M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story netted a good 8.5 crore* on Monday. With this, the film's collections now stand at 74.5 crore*. Now these are the kind of numbers that could have well made the makers happy had they come in the entire first week. However, the fact that such good moolah has been accumulated in four days flat is good news indeed for Fox since the Neeraj Pandey film has turned out to be a biggie for them.

As a matter of fact Neeraj Pandey's Baby had accumulated 63.82 crore in the entire Week One while the lifetime collections of Special 26 were 67 crore. That makes M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story look even bigger. In fact if one talks about the biopic affairs then Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the biggest grosser in this genre in the current times, had a lifetime collections of 109 crore which would be surpassed by the Mahendra Singh Dhoni biopic in the second weekend itself.

Meanwhile, the film is setting new records of 2016 as it is already at No. 8 position amongst the highest grossers of 2016 so far. This is how the list stands:

Sultan - 301.5 crore

Airlift - 129 crore

Rustom - 128 crore

Housefull 3 - 109 crore

Fan - 85 crore

Baaghi - 77 crore

Neerja - 75.65 crore

M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story - 74.5 crore* (4 days)

Kapoor & Sons - 73.3 crore

Dishoom - 70 crore

The film will cross Neerja this morning while Baaghi would be surpassed by afternoon shows. Fan would be history by Wednesday and that would make M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story the fifth highest grosser of 2016 in one week flat. Housefull 3 would be gone by the second weekend and from there the film would have a chase to go past Rustom and Airlift in order to be the second highest grosser of the year. For that, a lot would depend on the kind of hold that the film manages during rest of the week.

Very well made movie, Sushant is a perfect choice who played Dhoni so well.

Movie was emotional plus had some comic punchlines which made us laugh in between Dhoni's struggles. The young Dhoni, the school teacher who saw Dhoni's potential, Dhoni's parents and sister, his friends, his colleagues at Kharagpur all have been very instrumental in his success story, these are the people who stood by him when he had not attained fame. Special mention to his friends who did everything possible without nay expectations.

Dhoni made a lot of struggles especially during the Kharagpur TC posting.

Wanted some controversies to be shown but there was nothing much.

Disha & Kiara were good, like Kiara's acting better. Anupam Kher as usual at his best, school teacher coach was very good too and all his friends. The chah khabe lady was one of my fav 😆

Kumud Mishra was good too

Special mention to the face resemblances they made, Yuvi looked like real eal Yuvi, Dalmiya too resembled the real Dalmiya.

Must watch for Dhoni fans.
