i cant speak for most people...i don't know what they think or why they didn't go...i liked the trailer but i felt it revealed a lot. i saw a mini glimpse of the movie in the trailer from start to finish and i wasn't emotionally invested to run to the theater to watch it ...
i fear adhm might have a similar fate as bbd if the leaked story is true, but the title song has me emotionally invested and from time to time when i listen to it... i am moved enough to want to watch the movie then i have to remind myself its a kjo movie 😆
my guess is for movies to work commercially... they need to make the audience care deeply about the main characters and they need to have a strong second half building up to the climax where the audience cares what happens to the characters...in 1998 kuch kuch hota hain was watched by the younger generation and the older generation... by people who were educated and uneducated, but they were all emotionally invested in the characters and what happened to them.. movies are not about intellect or life lessons... in a romantic one it has to have an emotionally payoff...it could have an happy ending or a sad ending like aashiqui 2...but it has to touch the audience... in today's times what astonishes me the most is that makers care more about showing corsica than about the emotional depth of the characters and the climax whether it can make the audience feel for the characters...
Very very well said...emotional investment is what makes the movie tick, especially more so now than ever as consumerism is on the rise and people have easy access to not just movies but also other sources of entertainment right at their fingertip.
With so many alternatives available, moviemakers should work doubly hard to get the audience connected with their story and characters and move beyond superficial trappings otherwise footfalls will not materialise.
Another thing about this movie in particular is that many members here emphasised on how the movie was visually beautiful and had excellent cinematography, I kinda have to disagree. Despite watching it on the big screen there wasn't a single piece of cinematographic work that had me marvelled. When comparing it to Farhan and Zoya's movies, it definitely fell short technically too.
It was a decent first attempt by Nitya but nothing exceptional to have long legs. I was expecting a high opening though on account of the hit songs but I guess the stardom of the lead pair was not sufficient enough to ensure that.
