Tubelight wasn't a risk either, Bajrangi was more of a risk.


Tubelight is a risk . This is the probably first Salman movie where he doesnt have a love interest and gets beaten up frequently instead of beating others

Salman keeps signing with same people for 3 reasons-
1) They are the only ones coming to him😆😆
2) Yaari Dosti😆😆
3) They are the only ones to handle his temper tantrums😆😆

The flaw with tubelight as reported is that the story is pathetic/senseless. The role demanded good acting skills which were not possible for Salman. The songs apart from Sajan Radio are not that hit. Salman should stick to his masala entertainers.

I don't think so. Ghajini was a lot darker than usual masala flicks. For me, it felt like action thriller, but well, you may be right.

As for Wanted, it was barely a hit but for Salman, it was the movie that nearly saved a dying star. It didn't work at the plexes at all, unlike Dabbang that rocked all of India.

Don't class Jai Ho/Tubelight in the same breath as PRDP. Prem Ratan broke all opening records, so if that movie was anything like MPK or even PKTDK, it'd have easily been an ATBB.

In Jai Ho, Salman was an angry young man. That movie was masala. As for Tubelight, I don't think- not to have a love interest or to beat up other people alone would make a movie commercial or masala. It's the narrative structure that determines a commercial movie and separates it from a casual flick. Tubelight had the same massy commercial structure of storytelling. Don't let Kabir's pseudo-intellectual talks delude you.

Bollywood doesn't experiment a lot, so we don't have a mainstream experimental cinema with big stars. It's usually with the smaller actors. In the case of Tubelight, romance was replaced by bromance. If the tables had flipped, and Salman's role was performed by someone like Swara Bhaskar and Sohail's role, by Salman, with more emphasis on an elder brother's journey and adventures during the war, and Swara's emotional story and trials back at home - trust me, Tubelight would have been an ATBB.

Sucks tho.

Salman is desperate to be seen as the good, simple guy with a heart of gold bringing about world peace or bringing families together..it's all part of the larger plan to erase the court cases, woman beating acts, all negative aspects from people's minds. That's why he won't play any negative character either.
Most stars always repeat the directors who give them their biggest hits. It's but natural..this time Salman overestimated his own ability to act and cry + was overconfident that his fans will accept anything. Sallu has always made people laugh when he cries as far as I can remember. No idea why he or Kabir thought it was a good idea to put Sallu in a role where has to cry for 99% of the movie.

Janta is emotional and responds to emotions, but no one likes over-manipulation to make people cry. That feels cheap and forceful. Hirani is a master at this..people put Kabir on the same level too fast. Kabir is just another director who can direct but can't write. Directors should understand their strengths and stick to them.

i get ur point, but he doesn't seem the calculative type to think of these things.
its kind of amazing to see the career he has had...considering he is not the calculative type.. i guess people can really see through the calculative types...

Well repeating director aint a problem if the script/story-telling is good. Like one can always trust Hirani or in old days Gulzar or Mukherjee on story-telling as a matter of fact and it will never go waste.


But sometimes his 'helping' family and friends go OTT and he just cannot say no He should focus more on the script than the source from where the request is coming.

Two reasons
1) he wants continuous success and money and therefore doesn't want to take risk by doing films with unknown people

2) To maintain his so called redeemed and good boy image who s the flag bearer of Bhai of common people. In this way his criminal acts will be forgotten by his fans and he will be worshipped the way he is.
