IN the ceaseless war between Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and perhaps Katrina Kaif, Kangana Ranaut seems to be having the last, albeit surreptitious, giggle. The muchtouted 'Queen' of the film world remains so, even years after the film by the same name shot her to super-stardom. We have it from our sound sources that Ranaut is offered almost every big film that is being written, and madam is refusing them by the busloads. Atta girl! Her reasons are rather feminist, so she has a cheer from us as well. She won't do a film if the male lead has the title role, or if he is onscreen for even a minute longer than her. She insists on authorbacked titles. She will also refuse a film if the male lead is paid more than her.
So, Ranaut has refused almost every film with Akshay Kumar that was offered to her (and it seems she has been offered almost every film he has starred in lately, including Airlift and Rustom). She refused Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan with Salman Khan (insiders swear she told the makers "there can't be two sultans in the film"). She also refused the Sanjay Dutt biopic with Ranbir Kapoor where she would essay the role of Dutt's wife Maanyata.
In fact, the film's director, Raju Hirani, then offered her another heroine-centred film. And after being unable to come on board Aanand L Rai's next film opposite Shah Rukh Khan (Rai is known to discuss all his scripts with his Tanu Weds Manu-star), he's offered her a later film called Heer.
