Yeah same here and it is entirely upto the mood but movies based on the common man has always intrigued me. And Im also guilty of the same behavior that when I go to India I only watch some big budget movie at theatre and have no time to watch such movies at home while on vacation but if Im abroad I love watch feel good stories that shows traffic, local food, struggles basically anything and everything about life. You learn so much with their dynamics and equations and the whole psychology. Probably why I still repeat watch Malgudi days. 😆

Well, Im an NRI and my All Time favorite movies are Sholay, Darr, QSQT, CDI, Anand, 3 Idiots, Golmaal (old), KHNH, Kahani, Barfi, PK, Queen, ZNMD, DCH, Swades, HHRPK and many more.

So there is no particular genre as such, I like all good, entertaining movies, movie may have some message or may not but has to be good, clean fun or thought provoking or gripping like thrillers.

I loved Lunchbox, A Wednesday and Drishyam so I like serious, artsy movies of that type, and at same time I loved CE, OSO, Dhoom 2, KMG, Holiday, Bhool Bhulaiya and many such masala movies.

My only requirement is there shd be no crassness or vulgarity in the masala movies, they shd be clean and enjoyable entertainers.

For me I can watch anything I dont have a set of requirements but mostly this is due to time pass. Drishyam was another great movie and I loved it. Even Madhur bhandarkar makes some really good movies but it usually has some mature content so you may not like it but in the end they are still griping and worth a watch.
