All the options mentioned EXCEPT being a part of SRK' camp and PR, helped her to reach where she is..many actresses debuted with SRK like Anushka,Mahima but they NVR got the same success as Deepika..and PR helps only after you are successful. So these two options are not valid here.
I voted for personality bcoz I love her positive attitude toward everything.. The way she worked hard despite being criticized as a non-actor that was not possible if she didnt have a positive personality..there are very rare examples when an average actress proves herself to be the best actress..though Imtiaz Ali always referred to her as an amazing actress from love aaj kal days.

A combination of hard work + good PR skills. She was pretty bad initially but Cocktail I think was her high point. N from then on she's been choosing great scripts. Shes beautiful but then I don't find her drop dead gorgeous types which almost everyone on IF does! 😆 Anyway, different strokes for different folks. But ya, to sum it all, sheer hard work and dedication and her ambition to be on the top has finally paved off. N this is coming from a non fan of DP's! 😆

Really a mix of everything, but I voted for talent too. I think it really takes all of the options you've listed to become an A list star - boyfriend, movies, PR, being part of a camp etc - but what I like the most about her is her growth as an actor... As follows:

I remember liking her in the OSO promos and then being enamoured by her beauty in the movie. Then Love Aaj Kal's performance felt very wooden and I started to think she would just be another beautiful girl who can't act. I didn't think much of CC2C and Houseful and thought her performance in Break ke Baad was actually quite terrible, I ended up closing the movie 15 mins in (Not an Imran fan either).

After watching Cocktail, I was pleasantly surprised - enough to make me get me off my seat and notice just her in the movie. She shone in quite a few sequences, and my favourite shots was when she dances all alone in a club with an angry, empty look on her face. I can still remember it vividly.

Then came 2013 with YJHD, Chennai Express and Ram Leela, and there really was no looking back for DP - she made her mark in each movie and it just felt like it was a different person altogether. Some scenes of her I loved - YJHD: scenes with Ranbir in Travelling in Udaipur, her wanting to go to a party but studying instead; CE kick SRK scene and RL her dancing in Nagada and scenes with Supriya and Ranveer.

2014 was just about ok, with HNY - thought the movie was terrible with DP and Abhishek being the saving graces - and Fanny, but nothing great.

2015 was pretty exceptional with Piku, Tamasha and Bajirao. She was very subtle and restrained in Piku, and very expressive and effortless in Tamasha. I have written before that I think Tamasha is her best performance so far - I just really enjoyed her in it. She wasn't bad in Bajirao but PC and Ranveer were outstanding so she seemed comparatively weaker.

Looking forward to XXX and Padmavati - not a fan of either genre but expecting nothing less than the best from DP! 👍🏼

Public relations has played a major role in her stardom. People tend to have a negative view of PR as spin masters. However, PR people are just communications experts who know what makes audiences tick and train their clients to match their audience expectations.
