In the Mughal times for sure, the number & types of aphrodisiacs, pleasure enhancing techniques, appliances & as a consequence, the preventive methods were varied & many!! They won't be able to be replicated today. Akbar had 30-40 legal wives but the number of women in his harem including concubines, slave girls & old imperial ladies is estimated to be anywhere from 300-3000, depending on which historian One would like to believe, lol. And they never needed to remember any of their names because apart from their favourites/beloveds, they were seen as pleasure vessels & nothing really more. Maansingh is said to have 60 wives, yes. All of them had many wives, it was only a practical option to increase the chances of a male heir/s & fear due to king/Emperor's age. Also, higher number of women was seen as a point do honour as it was a clear indication of wealth & power of the kingdom/empire, thus king/Emperor.

Lil: Months?? Years!! They were forgotten & kept in a corner like love dolls catering dust. Yes, turning to eunuchs for sexual pleasure was very common! Homosexuality was frowned upon unless it was practised by the pleasure-seeking Amirs (courtiers in Mughal times) but that was a little more accepted & definitely more practiced in the Mughal times though it was present elsewhere too. But women practicing it was whispered about & historians say was punishable by death. Many women who committed indiscretions were killed & thrown in long, deep wells & no-one asked or spoke about them since they were unimportant. It was an immensity luxurious & powerful existence but ultimately was Slow Poison. In any time or in any kingdom, royal/imperial
Women besides the favoured ones, were nothing more than chattel.

IC: Oh definitely, deflowering young, beautiful virgin boys was a relished past-time for the sexually adventurous Amirs In Mughal Hindustan. Ahhhemmm. It was frowned upon but definitely more accepted & all these Amirs had their favourites that sometimes were turned into eunuchs & made to guard their real "property" their harem. Female homosexuality was severely frowned upon & of discovered, punishable by death. What a surprise that the conditions present don't really change for the positive for women whatever be the case.

More like majorly gullible for someone who was thought to be a just and noble king.

Achi baat hai.. at least they would know who their wives are and the various anniversaries.
All these other kings wouldn't even know their wives names or even they are actually married, I'm pretty sure if the maid was very pretty they would think she was one of their wife too 😆 😆

the higher no of women in harem the mightier the king was considered.Writer even deliberately increased the no to show their king more macho😕

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Without these lists, I feel like if you're walking around with 60 wives, any random female can be like "oh yeah you don't remember me? I'm wife number 36. Let's get going baby" or something like that😆

I read few wives used to engage in sexual acts with eunuchs cause they could not get the sexual pleasure they needed. You know coz the king had many options and few wives would get ignored for months! 😕

I guess the women did not even realize the cruelty they were being subjected to. for them, this was the norm

Pemberley: I think apart from the main queen, life for all would be quite disturbing
