#UdtaPunjab stands strong at the box-office

Of last week's releases, Udta Punjab has made its way into the top earners of the year so far, with strong first week collections to speak of. Opening its first week on a high with Rs 33.80 crore, the film faced a drop of a little over 50 per centon Monday, earning Rs 4.50 crore. relatively steady figures followed, with Rs 4 crore in earnings on Tuesday, Rs 3.40 croreon Wednesday and Rs 2.80 crore on Thursday, which takes the total up to Rs 48.50 crore, the fifth highest first week total of 2016 so far. If the film manages to hold well today, amid relative competition and with a lower screen count, Udta Punjab is likely to score close to Rs 60 crore by the end of the second week, making it an above par earner thus far.

Probably the first Bollywood movie where the Punjabi spoken is authentic and real.. just the way it's actually spoken in most parts of Punjab. Otherwise it's always so Hindi-ish.

Abhishek Chaubey's Udta Punjab has shown a big drop in business on its 8th day at the box office. This was expected because the film was performing in North India and that was due to two reasons - Diljit Dosanjh's presence and the fact that the film was about Punjab.

But Udta Punjab' had major competition in North India this week, from Diljit Dosanjh's Punjabi film Sardaarji 2, which took a record-breaking opening on Friday.

The Shahid Kapoor starrer will now struggle to recover its costs through theatrical business. It might just about break-even when other revenue sources are included, but such films have little or no satellite value. The music has fetched a good price.

Overall, Udta Punjab' is heading towards domestic lifetime collections of around 60 crore. The verdict of the film is likely to be Above Average'.

^First of all, we were all aware of the fact the movie won't make more than 60/65cr.

And from no where the movie is considered disappointed by anyone! It's basically considered a hit anyway by public and critics.

Comparing it to the budget and giving it a tag should be considered nonsense right now. lol

Yeah, after what, the first week? lol

Film's won the public' heart already. Critics and audiences alike have given it roaring positive feedback. Now whether it becomes a hit or average, for the audience its gonna remain one of the impactful films of the year, and it will make its mark felt in the award season as well.

This movie without the controversy would have TANKED real bad!

Aalia stands out spectacularly in some scenes and Shahid is to be applauded for trying out a different role though his performance was not consistent. He failed the dialect unlike Aalia who nailed it. .Daljit stands out and bebo was okay.

Had it not been for the buzz the controversy created, no one would have rooted for this movie.The issue was poignant however it was a very very weak script.Not very engaging.

Lol are you telling me without the controversy movie would have not been appreciated?! 😆 What nonsense.

In fact without the controversy it'd have been a pleasant surprise for the audience.

People went in to watch already thinking it's going to be a good movie cause of all the hoopla ... Luckily people did end up liking.
