Sid is like the slow tortoise. Slowly and steadily he will get there. Varun is like the over confident rabbit. Will slow down in the end. And it took me the very bad Dishoom trailer to fully admit defeat(I supported VD earlier). Under acting is still honestly better than over acting.

Granted Varun was WAY better in the debut film SOTY, he hasn't really been able to grow as an actor. I found him mediocre in Badlapur. He overacted a lot in Humpty Sharma, Main Tera Hero, Dilwale. His scenes in Dilwale were painful to watch. He doesn't seem to be pushing himself as an actor either as his upcoming movies aren't any different from the stuff he's done before - Humpty 2, Dishoom etc...

Sid was wooden in SOTY but I found his performance in Hasee Toh Phasee to be earnest. He was a complete natural. I like the way he approaches the boy-next-door characters. Even in Kapoor & Sons, he was part of star cast and still managed to stand out while underplaying his part and not having any breakthrough moments per se. That's a sign of a good actor in my opinion. His performance in Ek Villain was average - he did well in the action scenes but I found him struggle with the emotional parts. I like the fact that he's taken more risks as well when it comes to movies, roles and even the length of his roles. His upcoming BBD doe not look promising but at least it's in a different space.

I might be in the minority but Sid in Ek Villain and Varun in Badlapur were two very comparable roles and I personally found Sid to be more convincing. Haven't seen ABCD 2 or Brothers.

I think for me that I have found that they both have kind of stuck to the same genre. Broken hearted lover boy vs the collage cute take home to momma boy. For me I think everything was going well until that horrid dudwale. Even though I didn't like the amount of screen time that VD had in ABCD2 I couldn't fault his acting and he was very good. Bt this dudwale and dishoom I am not happy. Dishoom we will have to wait to see hw it ends up. Bt I think coz of dilwali has really not done VD any good and pushed him backwards in the same category as sid. And I disagree with Sid being better than VD in EV and Badlapur. VD was just sick cool in that movie I wish he does more films like that. That's what I want from him. And I want him to work more with actresses that sid has worked with Pari, Shraddha(loved them in abcd 2), bt no alia. Alia, sid and vd should not act together

under acting u can ignore hw pathetic it was. Bt when its over acting u cnt ignore it. If VD doesn't wake his case up and try and reinvent himself he will eventually going to be like junior Bachchan irrelevant. Only difference is he wnt have a star wife as he said he wnt marry any1 from the industry.

something Sid fans should be proud of is that Sid is not from bollywood family and as such will have to struggle more at each and every step in future. So whatever he achieves will not go unnoticed and highly praised than say Varun. If he equals Varun then by default Sid will be considered one step higher... at present, he is not

unfortunately even though he is an outsider the view is he backed. No offence to David Dhawan fans bt I really dnt rate him highly as a director/producer nor his brother. Coz Sid has backing he is actually getting better movies than VD if u think ab it

Varun is also part of what is called Dharma's talent group along with Sid and Alia. So he gets access to the same scripts as Sid. Plus given his clean box office record he probably gets more offers than Sid too. He's choosing differently than Sid.

As for your original question, my answer is somewhere between no and too early to tell. Sid is obviously behind in terms of box office draw. I prefer his acting to Varun's (personal opinion) even though I also think he has a lot of room for improvement. 5 or 10 years from now we might have a better answer.

One thing that seems apparent so far is that they seem to have different plans for their careers. Sid is trying different roles and different genres. I think he's trying to build a filmography and seems to be making an effort not to get pigeon holed and typecast. Varun I think is aiming for box office success and choosing his films accordingly. He seems very formula driven and so far those have worked for him so unless something drastically fails he will continue down this path. HSKD is being made into a franchise and if Dishoom becomes a hit so will it.

Sid might never become a huge superstar like the Khans but I think he will have a long term successful career. Varun probably will become a superstar but for how long is hard to predict. Will he be a Salman Khan or a Govinda?

Sid was the worst part of K & S. His acting was so bland, so expressionless. Pathetic!
The rest of the star cast though was superb!

They both have such a long way to go as actors.
Sid was the worst part of K&S. He had ONE scene, just one, where he was actually required to act. Rest was more straightforward..and that one scene was a joke. He also lacks screen presence. Katrina is possibly the worst actress to have graced our times, but she had screen presence in abundance.

I cannot really see him outside of the 'quieter guys with the chip on their shoulders' , the quiet foils essentially, or maybe action roles which rely on his looks more than anything else. The full on desi roles..chichora guys so to say, I can't see him in...probably that's why Varun gets those roles from Dharma and Sid gets the other ones. I see Sid as more of an Imran Khan/John Abraham replacement. I don't really see him going very far without KJo's support tbh.

As for Varun, he is the exact opposite of Sid in many ways..hyper, overexcited. He needs to bring out the subtler acting whereas he seems to have gotten stuck in these louder overacting chichora roles, perhaps because he is trying to build that SS fanbase. He seems to be aiming to make these 'desi' roles his forte..inspired by Salman and Govinda. But copycats are forgotten, you have to bring your own individuality. Badlapur is not some acting masterpiece from him but it was a decent effort. Varun is a star kid so things will always be easier for him...but he has screen presence and can dance well. I think acting wise he is better than Sid despite the tendency to overact.

If we are talking about future superstars..you need a certain personality to be a superstar. If you don't have a personality, then you better have something else...like the ability to pick great scripts (Aamir) or good looks & dancing skills (HR).

They are not imitating SRK or Salman, it is what people like me see in them.

I can only speak for myself but from the minute I saw BBB, Ranveer reminded me of SRK. The energy, the confidence, the ambition, being well spoken, giving good interviews, the brave choices (SRK early choices like Darr and Baazigar and Ranveer what did for BajiRao) all speak to similarities to me. I will admit I was looking for the "next SRK" because I have liked SRK since a child and he has to stop being a hero sometime. You can tell Ranveer is likely to have a production company sooner rather than later. So I was able to immediately spot similarities in Ranveer, But he is still his own person and brings his personality which is why I like him for himself, but part of his appeal for me is exact same reasons why I like SRK.

Varun was slower to spot. SOTY was horrendous and I am not particularly a Salman fan, but MTH and how he dominated the screen made me look at him differently. Salman is not particularly a great actor but he has incredible, dominating screen presence and extremely memorable and charismatic. I see that to a lesser extent in Varun. But out of the newbies he has it the closest to what Salman has. And in Dilwale for all it's faults was quite deja vu with SRK and Varun which reminded me a lot of Salman-SRK. But Varun again brings his own personality to the mix which is what makes him interesting to me.

Ranbir is Raj Kapoor's grandson, I don't know much about Hindi actors but I know about Raj Kapoor and thus I saw a lot of parallels between them. He is his grandfather's heir but if I push I am able to see parallels to Aamir in their approach to cinema.

To be a star, especially a hero you need something special. These are the three that stand out to me right now. Fawad too, but he comes with a big Paki tag and I am not so sure he will make it big in BW simply because of that, but if all things were equal he is also one I would pick to go all the way to the top. Again IMO and YMMV.
