HAHK wasn't just bigger , it was much bigger hit.

And no, HAHK doesn't rule internet, it's DDLJ which rules internet because many young people use it.

Talking about real life, HAHK is far more popular film than DDLJ. It's songs & dances are way more iconic. HAHK is loved by the people of all age group while DDLJ is generally loved by only youngsters.

There is a reason why it gets telecast many times more than than DDLJ on TV.

You hear more about DDLJ because young people talks about it while the people who love HAHK would not be talking about films.

And one more point, Can anyone ignore the EXTRA efforts made by YRF to make it look more iconic and bigger hit. Everyone knows that the film isn't running that well in Maratha Mandir but YRF is still trying to force it.

well said.👍🏼

HAHK used to be one of my favourite movie and i still love didi tera devar deewana but now i tried to rewatch it and could not finish it - it was borefest full of songs like watching a shaadi dvd . i still think that MPK is much better than HAHK .

I had never watced HSSH but heard a lot of praises for it on forum . I think about 2 weeks ago it aired on tv and very fondly i started watching it but what the heck was that 😕

But i have to say sallu looked really cute in that period .
For some strange reason i can watch biwi no 1 again and again 😳

So ofcourse my vote goes to DDLJ 😆

I personally loved DDLJ a lot more but i don think its more iconic than HAHK..I guess we discuss DDLJ more cos its a love story..And SRK-Kajol went on to do some really popular films post that so it sorta added to its cult status..While Salman-Madhuri never acted together again..And NRIs obviously like DDLJ more so its discussed a lot till date..Doesn't take anything away from HAHK though..I personally dislike Sooraj Barjatya's films but Salman-Madhuri looked picture perfect together..I love love pehla pehla pyaar hai 😆 And i do think Didi tera devar deewana is as iconic as Tujhe dekha toh yeh jaana sanam..I have been on a 90s high these days and both these films make me extremely nostalgic right now 😆 Ppl forget songs in a matter of days or months these days..While a lot of songs from these films have endured the test of time and i can still watch Didi tera/ Pehla pehla pyaar hai and Tujhe dekha toh yeh/ Mehndi laga ke rakhna without getting bored..And Salman looked gorgeous as Prem..While Raj will forever remain the charmer and the guy i crushed hard on as a kid..Yeah, am on a 90s high thanks to all the movies i watched off late 😆

I didn't know about HAHK until I joined this forum. 😆
DDLJ was a nice film but it's overrated IMO. But I guess it was like a breath of fresh air at the time of release hence the rage...idk.

Personally I loved DDLJ more than HANK as it was just right film when I was growing up😆😉..Total fantasy stuff plus SRK and songs..I was never a Kajol fan but I loved her in that film..But DDLJ bigger than HANK is a joke..

HANK was on another level..Madhuri was a rage and even Salman..It was the 1st hindi movie I had seen in theatre because my mother and aunt accompanied me and my cousins..I went to a single screen and remembered people throwing paisas during songs even at the first wah wah ramji song !!!!!By the time Didi tera dewar deewana came people were whistling and clapping all along..HAHK is iconic. People have seen the movie multiple times..you wont believe even 10-15 times was common amongst the masses...Every one wanted a piece of Madhuri as sister in law or wife or even daughter such was her stardom post this film😆

I would say post Sholay if there's one film which has got massive acceptance pan India it has to be HAHK

If you don't believe me ask a causal fan, what is the biggest hit in Bollywood history? 90% will say DDLJ.

There are seven films in the history of Hindi cinema till date (2010) which stand above the others. What these films did is smash barriers by a distance. If a huge blockbuster of their times were expected to hit a certain level, then what these films did was go much much higher than that level. They all practically went twice as high. The seven films are easy to pick out but the order after Sholay is debatable but the following list is how we see it to be.
1. SHOLAY (1975) - Simply the most watched and loved film of Hindi cinema by a distance. Dominated theatres for 25 years with umpteen re-runs. Business in re-runs was on many occasions higher than newly released films of the time.
2. MUGHAL E AZAM (1960) - Smashed all records when first released and the amazing re- run with its colour version (2004) gives it number two position.
3. HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN (1994)/GADAR EK PREM KATHA (2001) - Tough to split the two, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun basically changed film business while Gadar is the most watched film of the modern era (post Hum Aapke Hain Kaun) . Basically these films are the biggest blockbusters of the modern era.
5. MOTHER INDIA (1957) - The first film to smash records by a margin. Business is similar to Mughal E Azam but impact of that film in 2004 re-run gives it edge.
6. DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE (1995)/THREE IDIOTS (2009) - Tough to split the two, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was a huge follow up a year after Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and a 15 year (still going) run at one cinema in Mumbai. Three Idiots was the first true mega blockbuster since business became dominated by multiplexes. Another similarity between the two is that though they were the second biggest hits of their respective decades they were liked more by the classes than Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Gadar so therefore have a better media perception than those legendary box office blockbusters.
Other huge grossers would be Sangam, Upkar, Bobby, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, Kranti, Coolie, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Maine Pyaar Kiya, Raja Hindustani, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Dhoom 2 and Ghajini but these films are well below the big seven. Some All Time Blockbusters are missing as they were All Time Blockbusters due to being smaller films and not huge takings at the box office.
