@bold - True that. Play Antakshari and you would know, all 90s songs come to you first than any other. Not a single song from today's time.

HAHK was truly iconic. HAHK brought back families to the theater. That era was dominated by VHS. and action movies or double meaning comedy movies. HAHK was a true family drama in a long long time.HAHK was responsible for all saas-bahu serials on TV😆..

Rajshri released HAHK in only one theater in Mumbai (Liberty) for 4-5 weeks. We are crying on IF dilwale got only 3000 screens but HAHK had only 1 screen in Mumbai. Rajshri used to check if theater is fit for family audience and then they used to release the movie there.

Unbelievable marketing for the movie...as a kid i still remember lighting on the screen going on for each songs...ambulance outside theaters...some people used to faint when Renuka Shahne fell down from stairs in the movie...Long queues for advance booking for almost a year even after the release...it was crazy...

I have not seen such craze for any movie till now...I have heard some crazy stories about Sholay and jai Santoshi Maa from my parents but i think HAHK tops all of them.

New theater opened in my city and HAHK was the first film. Craziness unlimited. My father would ask our office peon to stay back on Friday night and then he would stand in line for Movie tickets from morning 5 AM. Every other Saturday-Sunday coz one or the other relative kept coming in. I have watched HAHK with almost everyone. Lost count of how many times. Awesome memories. Unbelievable rage! Dialogues of ddlj may be cult now - but HAHK will always remain my fav.
hahk > ddlj anyday.

HAHK isn't overshadowed or dominated by DDLJ. It has its own place in the film history and absolutely nothing can replace it. There's probably not a single person of the older generation in my family who hasn't watched it in theaters or doesn't have stories to share about the entire movie viewing experience and the craze it had. It was immensely huge. I myself am not a fan of the movie but I have so many memories linked to the songs, the joote churana (even now, whenever this rasam happens in any of the marriages, I'm always taken back to HAHK for some reason. 😆 ) And the purple sari of Madhuri, I used to even call it the madhuri's color. The color itself was synonymus to didi tera dewar, for me. 😆

As earlier mentioned, DDLJ is more famous amongst the youngsters and I have some beautiful memories with it as well. I remember we were going on a school trip and there were these sarson ke khet on the way, everybody specifically asked the driver to stop. There were just a couple of cameras for the entire lot and everybody patiently waited to get their pictures clicked in there. The Jaa Simran, jee le apni zindagi used to be a favourite dialogue in our friends circle. Even before attending vivas and all, we used to wish each other this way. 😆

I feel, instead of pitting these movies against each other, it's better to appreciate their impact on pop culture and cherish the memories they gave us at different points -- says the messenger of peace and love (which is me) 😳 .
