Hardcore Internet fans/nerds know HAHK is the biggest grosser of the 90's. But to the casual fan worldwide DDLJ is much bigger, better and often referred to as the biggest hit in Bollywood history.

If you don't believe me ask a causal fan, what is the biggest hit in Bollywood history? 90% will say DDLJ.

So my question is this

Why does the SRK/Kajol Jodi overshadow the Salman/Madz jodi worldwide?

Why does DDLJ completely dominate and overshadow HAHK worldwide?

Even when mentioned by Bollywood stars/Tv hosts DDLJ is always mentioned first as it's an iconic classic, HAHK always gets overlooked or worse yet, not mentioned at all.

For me personally, I enjoyed both movies. DDLJ was much better though.

Don't know what numbers say? Don't know what a casual fan think? I for one loved HAHK more. I watched both the movies in theatre and I was a kid back then, a nursery going kid but I still remember dancing on didi tera devar deewana when I got back home while I slept through Half of DDLJ. 😆

DDLJ dominated one of the biggest movies of India HAHK LMAO. 😆

HAHK broke all records when it was released more prints, more shows, more screens were added coz its demand was so huge their ran out of everything at that time. 😆

It's same like Mahendra Singh Dhoni taking credits of Team India which was made and endorsed by Saurav Ganguly 😛

HAHK opened the door of overseas business of BW films.. It made everyone aware of the brilliance BW movies have.. DDLJ is more talked because of the jodi SRK Kajol.. KKHH, K3G these movies made DDLJ even more popular with time.. BW movies are appreciated worldwide because of the exposure HAHK gave to the world !! Disregard the root all you want, but without HAHK, not sure if capturing worldwide market would be made possible by DDLJ.. But yes, with time some movie could have done that eventually.. Here HAHK did it rightfully !! 👍🏼

Honestly didn't know HAHK was a massive hit before I joined this forum. I (along with everyone I know) though DDLJ and KKHH were the biggest hits of the 90's

DDLJ is definitely more respected and iconic film worldwide imo.

i think because HANK was more family oriented film... full of sanskars n family relationships.
n DDLJ was focused more on love and had a foreign destination which was new at that time in india.
Youngster connected more with DDLJ and grew up with a fantasy of trying to run after a train or meeting their dream girl or boy in switzerland.

no matter how much you love HANK, KKHH, DTPH, of the 90s you can never forget raj n simran romancing in switzerland and simran running towards the trains to get to her raj.

True. For me though hahk triumphs ddlj slightly cos of my memories attached. My first theatre experience , the dress mads wore green one which I wore for my mama's wedding! We were 10 -12 ppl, extended family and all!

Ddlj is beautiful too, but hahk was much more family oriented n happy n positive!

Ddlj was the cooler film n more "Bollywood "

I love hahk songs more though especially
Chocolate, lime juice
Pehla oehla pyar
Yeah mausam Ka jadoo
Tujhse juda hokar

From ddlj
Na Jane mere is my favorite followed by ruk Ja !
